JOB SUMMARY:
We are seeking a Legal Assistant to provide administrative support to the Legal Department team. This includes, but is not limited to, welcoming and communicating with clients and stakeholders, preparing, editing, researching, reviewing, verifying, and routing correspondences, reports, and legal documents; developing and maintaining filing and retrieval systems; recording and documenting meeting discussions; and managing office supplies and expenditures. This is a full-time job opportunity.
To be successful in this role, candidates must have proficiency in the English language, experience using Microsoft Word and document storage software, a working knowledge of Company and Conveyancing Law, legal terminology, principles, and research methods, along with strong communication, time management, organizational skills, and an eye for detail.
DUTIES /RESPONSIBILITIES
· Demonstrate familiarity with litigious procedures from start to finish.
· Assist with preparation of writs and other originating processes.
· Draft legal documents for Counsel’s review.
· Conduct legal research for the preparation of hearings and legal opinions.
· File pleadings through the judicial portal.
· Screen and categorize communication with internal and external Counsels as required
· Liaise with customers and answer queries
· Prepare monthly status reports for review by Counsel.
· Ensure that all documents are secured and properly filed for ease of retrieval.
· Ability to work independently and as a team member.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ ABILITIES
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Excellent time management and organizational skills with attention to detail.
· A good understanding of:
· The Laws & Legal Regulations of The Bahamas
· Legal language, principles, and research methods.
· The ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
· Proficient with Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams
· Familiarity with document storage platforms (DocuSign and Dropbox)
· Must be able to speak, read and write English fluently.
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION & EXPERIENCE
· Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Paralegal Studies or a related field OR LLB Degree
· At least 5 years of experience in a similar or same position
