Systems engineering is a cross-functional engineering discipline centered on an approach, mindset, and process. All activities that consider both the business and the technical needs of the customers with the goal of providing a quality product that meets the users needs. The discipline that executes a robust process of design, creation, and optimization of systems, consisting of identification and quantification of system requirements, creation of alternate system design concepts, performance of design trade studies, selection and implementation of the best designs and verification that the design is properly integrated and executed. Process that proceeds from concept to production to operation.
Impacts approaches, projects and programs in the functional area or affected business organization and ways of working. Impacts quality, efficiency and effectiveness of own team. Has significant input into priorities. Guided by professional practices and policies that are shaped by the role. The role has moderate autonomy, requiring high levels of operational judgment.
This position is for a role connected with the European GIS team within the Consulting Service organization, working cross functionally with different GE Vernova businesses.

The energy grid is changing faster than at any point in its history — and the simulation models, stability analyses, and integration studies that underpin that change need to be right. As a Senior Power Systems Engineer at GE Vernova, you will lead and execute electrical power system studies that directly support grid reliability and performance in a world with an ever-increasing share of power electronics equipment.

You will work with external clients and internal teams on some of the most technically demanding grid integration challenges in the industry — from steady-state and dynamic performance analysis to FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission Systems) control design and electromagnetic transient simulation. Your work will shape how grids integrate large loads and renewable generation, and how clients meet applicable grid codes and performance standards.

Responsibilities

~2 min read
  • →Lead power system studies end-to-end — propose, plan, manage, and execute electrical power system studies covering steady-state performance, dynamic stability, harmonics, short circuits, protection, and EMT (Electromagnetic Transient) analysis; communicate results clearly to clients and internal stakeholders.
  • →Perform independent technical analysis — conduct grid stability modelling and simulation using industry-standard tools; develop and evaluate solutions involving equipment and controls to satisfy reliability requirements, grid codes, and applicable standards.
  • →Support large load grid integration — assess integration challenges and identify appropriate technical solutions for grid connection of large load projects, including control interaction and resonance mitigation.
  • →Deliver technical consulting to clients — communicate effectively with clients to support their analytical needs, equipment design decisions, grid application requirements, and compliance obligations; resolve technical issues promptly and build lasting working relationships.
  • →Develop and maintain a consulting project pipeline — identify and pursue consulting opportunities with both external and internal customers, contributing to the growth and technical reputation of the Grid Solutions consulting practice.
  • →Contribute to the engineering community — actively participate in relevant industry professional bodies such as IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission), or CIGRE (Conseil International des Grands Réseaux Électriques / International Council on Large Electric Systems); contribute to the development and application of technical and regulatory codes and standards.

You are a senior power systems engineer with deep expertise in grid stability, power systems modelling, and client-facing technical consulting — comfortable working independently on complex analysis while contributing to a collaborative, quality-focused team.

Required

  • A Master's or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering or Electric Power Engineering is required for this role. The depth of independent technical analysis, client-facing consulting responsibility, and regulatory engagement this role demands requires a strong theoretical foundation in power systems engineering that is most reliably demonstrated through postgraduate-level academic training.
  • Significant experience in electric power engineering, with a focus on grid stability, modelling and simulation, power equipment application, and project performance evaluation.
  • Ability to independently perform engineering analysis and develop solutions in a team environment while providing credible technical consulting services to clients.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills — able to engage effectively with engineers, clients, and senior stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain a pipeline of consulting projects with external and internal customers.
  • Demonstrated project management capability across complex, multi-stakeholder technical engagements.
  • Willingness to travel as required — up to approximately 30% of working time.

Preferred

  • Proficiency in power system RMS (Root Mean Square) and EMT simulation tools such as PSS/E, PowerFactory, GEV PSLF, EMTP, PSCAD, or Python.
  • Hands-on experience in FACTS control system design, analysis, implementation, and simulation-based testing.
  • Experience with grid control coordination, resonance analysis, and control interaction mitigation.
  • Active standing in industry professional societies — such as EIT (Engineer in Training) or PE (Professional Engineer) licensure — or equivalent international recognition.

GE Vernova employees rise to the challenge of building a world that works. In this role, you will work on technically complex grid integration challenges with direct real-world impact — supported by a team that takes engineering rigour, client service, and continuous development seriously.

We provide varied, competitive benefits designed to reward high performers and support your personal and family needs. GE Vernova invests in your continued on-the-job learning and development, and provides a clear path for career growth within a global organisation.
