At GHD, we don’t just believe in the power of commitment, we live and breathe it every day.

That’s why we pledge to support and empower all of our people to make a positive impact when working hand in hand with our business to drive change. We’ll help you accelerate your career and empower you with the right technology and training as you bring ideas and projects to life.

Together with your colleagues, clients and partners, you’ll make an impact that is felt by all. See where your commitment could take you.

We’re looking for an experienced architectural professional who brings strong technical capability, sound judgement and the confidence to take ownership of projects from concept through delivery.

You’ll work across a diverse portfolio of projects and sectors, including transportation, water, property and buildings, energy, and environment. You’ll have the opportunity to solve complex design challenges, work directly with clients and multidisciplinary teams, and help turn ideas into thoughtful, practical and buildable solutions.

This is a role for someone who is comfortable working independently while knowing when collaboration makes the outcome stronger. You’ll balance design intent with technical requirements, constructability, cost, regulatory requirements and the needs of the people who will ultimately use the spaces we create.

Beyond project delivery, you’ll contribute to the continued development of our architectural capability by sharing your expertise, supporting developing professionals, building trusted client relationships, and contributing to proposals and opportunities for new work.

In this role, you’ll:

  • →Lead architectural design and delivery across projects of varying size and complexity, translating project requirements into thoughtful, technically sound solutions.
  • →Take ownership of architectural work through key stages of the project lifecycle, including planning, design development, documentation and delivery.
  • →Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, integrating architectural design with engineering and other technical disciplines.
  • →Apply your knowledge of building codes, regulations, standards and industry best practices to ensure designs are compliant, practical and technically accurate.
  • →Use BIM and other design technologies to develop, coordinate and communicate project information effectively.
  • →Undertake building and technical surveys, assess existing conditions, identify potential defects and risks, and translate findings into practical recommendations.
  • →Contribute to feasibility studies, technical assessments, cost-benefit considerations and risk analysis to help clients make informed decisions.
  • →Develop drawings, specifications and technical documentation that clearly communicate design intent and support successful construction.
  • →Provide architectural and construction advice related to new construction, alterations, maintenance and rehabilitation of buildings.
  • →Build strong working relationships with clients, consultants, contractors and project partners through reliable delivery and clear communication.
  • →Contribute to proposals, bids and tenders by bringing technical expertise, project understanding and client insight to the pursuit process.
  • →Share your knowledge and technical expertise with colleagues, supporting the development of others and strengthening capability across the team.
  • →Stay connected to emerging technologies, evolving regulations, design practices and industry trends that can improve both how we work and the outcomes we deliver.

We’re interested in someone who combines technical depth with practical thinking.

You’ll bring:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Architecture, or an equivalent relevant qualification.
  • Approximately 6 to 10+ years of relevant architectural experience.
  • Professional registration, accreditation, or demonstrated progress toward an appropriate professional designation, where applicable.
  • Experience independently developing and delivering architectural designs and technical documentation.
  • Strong knowledge of design development, building systems, construction methodologies, codes and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience using BIM and contemporary architectural design and documentation tools.
  • The ability to interpret complex project requirements and translate them into clear, workable design solutions.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary project teams and coordinating effectively with engineering and technical specialists.
  • The ability to assess alternatives, understand project constraints and make well-informed technical recommendations.
  • Strong judgement and the confidence to make decisions within your area of expertise, while recognizing when additional expertise or escalation is needed.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt your approach for clients, technical colleagues and project stakeholders.
  • A collaborative mindset and an interest in helping others develop their technical capability.
  • Commercial awareness, including an understanding of project scope, risk, budgets and the importance of delivering consistently for clients.

You don’t need to have encountered every project type or solved every problem before.

We’re looking for someone who is curious about what good design can do, comfortable working through complexity, and able to bring structure to problems that don’t always arrive neatly defined.

You care about the quality of the technical work, but you also understand that successful architecture is about more than drawings. It requires listening to clients, understanding constraints, working across disciplines, asking good questions and finding a way forward when there are competing priorities.

You’re comfortable owning your work, sharing what you know and learning from the expertise around you.

And if you see a better way to solve a problem, we want you to bring that thinking to the table.
