In 2020, G Mining Ventures (GMIN) was created to acquire direct ownership of projects and capitalize on the value uplift that successful mine development offers. In July 2024, GMIN acquired the Oko West project. The Oko West Project is a new gold discovery in northwest Guyana. It is located south of the historical “Oko” gold district, some 95 km west of Georgetown.
To ensure the achievement of this large-scale project, G Mining Ventures is looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of:
Chief Mine Surveyor
To provide essential survey control for a variety of mining needs and detailed surveys of the mine workings and plant infrastructure, using modern sophisticated survey equipment and appropriate presentation of all data in accordance with procedure. The Mine Surveyor will also be responsible for volume calculations of reportable material movements.
Key Responsibilities
To provide essential survey control for a variety of mining and total site needs, and detailed surveys of the mine workings
- To compile, keep, update and submit appropriate plans as per Mining Regulations.
- Ensure that all survey requests are prioritized and dealt with according to set priorities. End-of-month reporting of the quantities and qualities for all payment and record purposes.
- Keep an accurate up-to-date status of acquired lands and prospective lands to be acquired.
- Ensure all resources organized for survey function.
- Maintain and update accurate as-built of locations including but not limited to pits, dumps, stockpiles, Tailings Facilities, Water Ponds, Plant site, Services and all other infrastructure within the mining concession that may be altered either by excavation or by dumping.
- Ensure surveying services and support interface effectively with the engineering, mine planning and production functions.
- Provide basic design layout of roads, dumps, drainage, etc, and does more elaborate design under the direction of engineering staff.
- Provide final design layout under engineer direction, and ensure follow up in the field.
- Provide operations monitoring and reporting to enable the achievement of short and long term business objectives.
- Contribute to the Operations of the Mine by ensuring all jobs are done accurately and in a timely fashion and to draw up a budget for the Survey Section for each year
To be responsible for volume calculations of reportable material movements.
- Supervise the preparation and uploading of the data for the above tasks into the data loggers.
- Supervise the downloading, processing and filing of the data coming in from the field and prepares the results and plan for distribution.
- Supervise the month end volumetric survey of the pits and ensures the correctness of the computed volumes.
- Supervise or perform regular slope stability monitoring observations in the pit and timeously submit the reduced data to the Geo-technical Geologist.
- Help with data interpretation for mine planning, production forecasting and operational decision making.
- Archives all data and as-built
To supervise a team of survey personnel.
- Identifies strategies and key performance goals and acts as an advisor to direct reports; works to overcome challenges and barriers and minimize risk
- Sets performance targets and measures, monitors and manages overall performance of the team and direct reports
- Builds the capabilities of the team to enhance their ability to achieve financial and operating strategy; hires appropriately, leverages the talents of the team and takes corrective action where necessary
Qualifications/Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.
- Sworn Land Surveyor
- Formal professional or technical registration in appropriate area of expertise.
- Minimum of 7 years post graduate surveying experience in an open cut mining environment.
- 3 years in a management and/or high level supervisory position.
- Expert knowledge in the use of modern surveying instruments (total stations, DGPS, laser and optical levels and plummets) and post processing methods;
- Survey network establishment and adjustment;
- Proficiency in at least one Mining Software Package, and excellent computer skills and knowledge in MS Office Suite: dBase, word processing, spreadsheet;
- Excellent communication, training, interpersonal and supervisory skills

- Position based at the OKO Project site.
- Work Schedule – 14 days on 7 days Off
