In 2020, G Mining Ventures (GMIN) was created to acquire direct ownership of projects and capitalize on the value uplift that successful mine development offers. In July 2024, GMIN has acquired the Oko West project. The Oko West Project is a new gold discovery in northwest Guyana. It is located south of the historical “Oko” gold district, some 95 km west of Georgetown.


To ensure the achievement of this large-scale project, G Mining Ventures is looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of:


TUG Engineer

The Tug Engineer ensures reliable operation, maintenance, and safety of the vessel’s mechanical, propulsion, electrical, and auxiliary systems; manage engineering personnel and compliance with technical and environmental standards.



Key Responsibilities 

    • Oversee operation and maintenance of engines, generators, pumps, valves, and mechanical systems.
    • Monitor engine performance, fuel consumption, and systems efficiency; implement corrective actions and optimizations.
    • Conduct routine inspections, preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs.
    • Manage spare parts, tool inventories, and procurement for engineering works.
    • Ensure firefighting, bilge, and safety systems under engineering purview are operational and inspected.
    • Lead engineering emergency responses (engine failures, floods, fires), coordinate with the bridge and other teams.
    • Supervise and train engineering crew; assign work and maintain discipline in the engine room.
    • Plan and manage major repairs, refit activities, and coordination with shipyards and contractors.
    • Maintain engineering logs, maintenance records, and compliance documentation.
    • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations (emissions, waste management, fuel handling) and class/flag requirements.

    Qualifications/Skills and Experience

     

    • Marine engineering certification/license appropriate to rank (e.g., Chief Engineer certificate or equivalent).
    • Substantial seagoing engineering experience (typically several years in senior engineering roles).
    • Proven knowledge of marine propulsion, auxiliary systems, electrical systems, and troubleshooting.
    • Familiarity with statutory surveys, class requirements, and environmental legislation.
    • Strong technical, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills.
    • Effective leadership and team supervision abilities.
    • Good organizational skills for maintenance planning and parts management.
    • Clear communicator; able to coordinate with bridge team and external vendors.
    • Ability to operate under pressure during emergencies.
    • Valid medical fitness certificate for seafarers.

    Working Conditions

    • Position based at the OKO Project site. 
    • Work Schedule – 14 days on/7 days Off
    • Transport, accommodations, and meals provided on site.
