Job Purpose:
We are seeking a Senior Principal Engineer – eCommerce to lead engineering delivery for GSK Direct, GSK's B2B eCommerce platform that enables healthcare professionals to purchase GSK vaccines and pharmaceuticals in the US and international markets. This is a hands-on engineering leadership role: you will manage the vendor technical leads and drive a multi-disciplinary DevOps team of SAP Commerce Cloud, Composable Storefront, UI, and QA engineers. The role demands deep technical expertise in SAP Commerce Cloud, headless commerce architecture, along with the ability to partner with the Business Product Owner, enterprise architecture, and business stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable, and high-impact customer experiences.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- Own the technical health, roadmap execution, and engineering quality of the GSKDirect-US and GSKDirect-Global eCommerce platforms built on SAP Commerce Cloud and SAP Composable Storefront.
- Serve as the design authority for commerce solutions, approving designs across OCC APIs, B2B commerce (company accounts, customer-specific catalogs and pricing, approvals, checkout), SSO, ERP integrations and Backoffice.
- Make build-vs-configure decisions that favor out-of-the-box SAP capabilities, reduce technical debt, and keep the platform upgrade-ready.
- Implement and enforce ITMS (IT Management System) controls, ensuring compliance, audit readiness, and operational excellence in a regulated environment.
- Manage and direct the vendor technical leads, DevOps scrum teams of SAP Commerce, Composable Storefront, UI, and QA engineers.
- Own sprint delivery across 3–4 week agile cycles: backlog grooming, story analysis, estimation, sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives, and hold vendor teams accountable for quality, velocity, and commitments.
- Lead daily scrum with GSK leads and business stakeholders, removing blockers and making timely technical decisions.
- Track vendor performance against SLAs and KPIs (velocity, defect leakage, cycle time, incident resolution), and drive corrective actions and resourcing decisions with the supplier.
- Foster a “One Team” culture across GSK, onshore, and offshore team members built on collaboration, support, and accountability.
- Provide technical direction on SAP Commerce Cloud environment management and deployments.
- Guide the headless storefront architecture on SAP Composable Storefront (Spartacus) and Angular, including SSR, lazy loading, performance optimization, accessibility, and reusable component and design-system patterns.
- Lead code quality through GitHub pull request reviews, coding standards, unit testing expectations, and secure development practices.
- Drive root cause analysis of complex production issues.
- Partner with the GSK Business Product Owner and business stakeholders in the US and global markets to translate commercial needs into scalable technical solutions and a prioritized roadmap.
- Align with enterprise architecture, security, and integration teams (ERP, identity, data) within a federated architecture model.
- Influence roadmap and investment decisions by providing technical insights, feasibility assessments, and effort estimates, and explain technical trade-offs in clear, non-technical language.
- Modernize engineering practices: CI/CD pipelines (GitHub, Jenkins, Azure DevOps), test automation, release management, and environment strategy on CCv2.
- Drive AI-assisted engineering across the vendor DevOps team. That means GitHub Copilot for coding, unit tests and pull request reviews; AI help with story grooming and writing acceptance criteria; and tracking the impact on velocity and quality.
- Apply AI-driven monitoring to detect anomalies in site performance, checkout and order flows, cutting time to detect and resolve production issues.
- Plan and lead SAP Commerce Cloud and Composable Storefront/Angular version upgrades to stay current and secure.
- Stay ahead of SAP Commerce, composable/headless commerce, and B2B eCommerce trends, and mentor the vendor team's engineers.
- Prepare the platform for agentic commerce by exposing secure, well-governed OCC/REST APIs that AI agents can use, with clear guardrails for authentication, permissions and auditability.
