Dental Hygienist (Full-Time)

Proposed Schedule: 40 hours per week. Flexibility to have either four 10 hour shifts or five 8 hour shifts.

Hours of operation are Monday-Friday 8am-4pm

The Dental Hygienist will perform dental measures designed to preserve teeth and prevent the spread of oral disease. Participates in quality assurance and chart audits and protects patient confidentiality

• Takes and assesses medical history
• Cleans plaque, calcareous deposits, accretions and stains, including scaling and planing of exposed root surfaces, from teeth and beneath margins of gum
• Polishes teeth, including existing restorations
• Feels lymph nodes under patient’s chin to detect swelling or tenderness that could indicate presence of oral cancer
• Feels and visibly examines gums for sores and signs of disease
• Examines gums to identify recessed gums and signs of gingivitis or periodontal disease
• Applies fluorides and other cavity preventing agents to arrest dental decay
• Charts conditions of decay and disease for diagnosis and treatment by dentist
• Exposes x-ray
• Removes excess cement from coronal surfaces of teeth
• Provides clinical services and oral health education to improve and maintain oral health of patients
• Reviews nutrition with patients and/or parents of children
• Performs caries risk assessment
• Apply topical anesthetic when indicated for complete dental prophylaxis

• Associate degree from an accredited school for hygiene
• Current NYS Dental Hygiene License with 2 years clinical experience
• Current CPR or BLS Certification

The pay rate for this position is $46.82/hour
