Job Description Security/Custodian PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: Work as a member of the Program Design and Management Team to promote a healthy, safe and clean environment for Head Start children and staff. SUPERVISOR: Maintenance Supervisor QUALIFICATIONS High School Diploma or GED and 2 years of custodial experience. Must have the knowledge, skills and experience needed to perform the assigned functions responsibly. Must be able to serve and effectively communicate to the extent feasible, staff, children and families within the community. Must possess a valid Virginia Driver’s License and reliable transportation. An acceptable Criminal Record Check and Child Protective Services search, TB tine test and physical required for employment. DUTIES INCLUDE: Works with the service area supervisors and coordinators to prepare a safe, clean, and healthy environment for children and staff of the Head Start Program. Clean offices, classrooms, restrooms and cafeteria on a daily basis. Monitors the inventory of all cleaning supplies and equipment needed. Secures building at the end of each evening session. Ensures safety of children and staff departing the center. Assists the Center Coordinator in notifying proper authorities and/or Supervisor regarding emergency situations. Requirements High School Diploma or GED and 2 years of custodial experience. Must have the knowledge, skills and experience needed to perform the assigned functions responsibly. Must be able to serve and effectively communicate to the extent feasible, staff, children and families within the community. Must possess a valid Virginia Driver’s License and reliable transportation. An acceptable Criminal Record Check and Child Protective Services search, TB tine test and physical required for employment. Benefits Leave is characterized as Annual Leave and Sick Leave. As a Full-time employee, you will accrue Annual Leave each pay period for a total of 10 days per year, for each of the first five years of employment. You will also accrue five (5) hours of sick leave each pay period. In addition to Annual Leave and Sick Leave HRCAP grants employees one day of paid time each year for their birthday. Hampton Roads Community Action Program provides eleven (11) paid holidays: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, President's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving Day, the day after Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Medical, dental and vision insurance coverage options are available for employees and dependents. Employer pays seventy-five (75%) of the premium costs for health insurance. Coverage becomes effective on the first day of the month following the date of hire. The cost of coverage depends on the plan options and/or dependent coverage elected. All health insurance premiums are deducted from payroll on a pre-tax basis through a Section 125 Plan. Our retirement plan consists of a dollar-for-dollar matching contribution on salary reduction contributions made by each participant up to 3% after one year of service.
