KBR is seeking an Smart 3D (S3D) Administrator who will be responsible for the setup, configuration, maintenance, support, and governance of the Hexagon Smart 3D environment for engineering and design projects. This role ensures the integrity, availability, and performance of the S3D system while supporting multidisciplinary engineering teams, project model managers, and designers throughout the project lifecycle. The S3D Administrator works closely with project management, engineering systems, IT, and design leads to deploy project environments, manage databases, implement standards, troubleshoot issues, and optimize system performance.
Responsibilities
~2 min read- →Install, configure, upgrade, maintain, and administer Smart 3D (S3D) environments, including servers, services, and related system components.
- →Create, deploy, configure, and administer Smart 3D project environments, including workshare environments, project databases, catalogs, specifications, reference data, naming conventions, project settings, user roles, permissions, and security access.
- →Administer Smart 3D SQL Server databases and environments, including backups, disaster recovery, maintenance, performance monitoring, optimization, migrations, and upgrades.
- →Provide technical support to engineering and design teams, including troubleshooting modeling, workshare, synchronization, data integrity, software installation, connectivity, and application integration issues.
- →Support integration and interoperability with SmartPlant Foundation (SPF), Smart Instrumentation (SPI), Smart P&ID, Smart Electrical, Smart Materials, document management systems, and other engineering applications.
- →Coordinate model exchanges and data transfers with clients, project teams, and external stakeholders.
- →Support project mobilization and demobilization activities, ensuring efficient setup, transition, and closeout of project environments.
- →Maintain Smart 3D standards, procedures, and best practices while ensuring compliance with project execution plans, client requirements, quality audits, and model integrity reviews.
- →Support continuous improvement initiatives related to project execution workflows, data management, and system effectiveness.
- →Support data extraction, reporting, analytics, and information management requirements across projects and business functions.
- →Develop and maintain technical documentation, user guides, and system administration procedures.
- →Deliver user training and ongoing guidance on Smart 3D tools, processes, and best practices.
- →Mentor project model managers, design leads, and end users on Smart 3D capabilities and effective utilization of project environments.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline; equivalent industry experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
- Minimum 5 years of experience administering and supporting Hexagon Smart 3D (S3D) environments within engineering and design organizations.
- Experience supporting Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) projects across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Demonstrated experience configuring and administering Smart 3D project environments, including model management, workshare administration, reference data, catalogs, specifications, and project configurations.
- Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including database administration, maintenance, performance tuning, backup and recovery, troubleshooting, and upgrades.
- Experience with Windows Server administration and management of enterprise engineering application environments.
- Knowledge of engineering design systems, data management processes, and multidisciplinary design workflows.
- Experience troubleshooting Smart 3D application, database, connectivity, synchronization, and data integrity issues.
- Working knowledge of engineering systems integration and interfaces between design applications and related business systems.
- Proficiency with PowerShell and other scripting or automation tools to support system administration, maintenance, and process improvements.
Nice to Have

- Experience integrating Smart 3D with SmartPlant Foundation (SPF), Smart Instrumentation (SPI), Smart P&ID, Smart Electrical, Smart Materials, and related engineering applications.
- Knowledge of engineering disciplines including piping, structural, electrical, instrumentation, and process engineering.
- Experience supporting cloud-hosted engineering application environments.
- Familiarity with automation development, custom applications, and workflow optimization tools.
- Knowledge of engineering data management, document control systems, and digital project execution processes.
- Experience supporting model exchange, data integration, and collaboration with external clients and project stakeholders.
- Understanding of engineering information management, reporting, analytics, and enterprise data governance practices.
