Team Manager – Locality Team

Our client based in Devon is seeking an experienced Team Manager to join their Adult Social Care Locality Team. This is an excellent opportunity for a strong and motivated leader to oversee a busy community-based service supporting adults with a wide range of care and support needs.
The successful candidate will provide operational and professional leadership to a team of Social Workers and Adult Social Care practitioners, ensuring high-quality, person-centred practice and effective service delivery. You will oversee assessments, reviews, safeguarding activity, and complex casework, whilst supporting practitioners to deliver strengths-based interventions that promote independence, wellbeing, and positive outcomes.
This role requires an experienced manager with strong knowledge of Adult Social Care legislation, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with partner agencies, providers, citizens, and carers in a fast-paced environment.
What will your responsibilities be?
- Providing day-to-day leadership and management of the Locality Team, ensuring high standards of professional practice and service delivery.
- Supervising, supporting, and developing Social Workers and Adult Social Care staff through regular supervision, performance management, and professional development.
- Allocating work across the team, ensuring workloads are appropriate, priorities are managed effectively, and statutory responsibilities are met.
- Overseeing the completion of Care Act 2014 assessments, reviews, support planning, and complex case management activity.
- Providing oversight and guidance on safeguarding concerns and safeguarding enquiries, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and local procedures.
- Supporting staff with complex decision-making, risk management, and the application of professional judgement.
- Ensuring Mental Capacity Assessments and Best Interest decision-making processes are completed in accordance with the Mental Capacity Act 2005.
- Undertaking practice quality reviews and preparing cases for Practice Quality Forums and funding panels where required.
- Monitoring the quality of assessments, reviews, reports, and support plans to ensure they meet professional and organisational standards.
- Working collaboratively with health partners, providers, housing services, community organisations, and other stakeholders to deliver integrated support and positive outcomes.
- Responding to complaints, concerns, and service issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Supporting service improvement initiatives and contributing to the development of best practice across Adult Social Care.
- Monitoring performance, quality assurance activity, and key service objectives to ensure effective and efficient service delivery.
- Maintaining oversight of budgets, resources, and commissioned services to support positive outcomes and value for money.
Qualifications and Experience:
To be successful in this role you must have;
- Professional Qualification: MA, BA, BSc in Social Work, Diploma in Social Work, CQSW, or equivalent recognised professional qualification.
- Registration: Must be registered with Social Work England.
- Experience: Significant post-qualified experience within Adult Social Care, including leadership, supervision, or management responsibilities.
- Legislation Knowledge: Strong knowledge of the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Adult Safeguarding legislation, and associated statutory guidance.
- Safeguarding Experience: Proven experience overseeing safeguarding concerns, Section 42 enquiries, and complex risk management.
- Leadership Skills: Experience managing teams, supervising staff, allocating workloads, and supporting professional development.
- uality Assurance: Experience undertaking practice audits, quality reviews, and preparing cases for funding or decision-making panels.
- Multi-Agency Working: Strong experience working collaboratively with health services, care providers, partner agencies, citizens, and carers.
- Communication Skills: Excellent leadership, negotiation, report-writing, complaint handling, and stakeholder management skills.
- Organisational Skills: Ability to manage competing priorities, drive performance, and lead service delivery within a demanding environment.
