Chaplain 1

Medical Center: Chaplain- (Full-Time, Day Shift) -

*Position will include traveling to support LLUH entities throughout San Bernardino and Riverside County. 

Job Summary: The Chaplain 1 performs general Chaplain responsibilities in harmony with the mission of the LLUH.  Participates as a member of an interdisciplinary group providing counseling, spiritual guidance, emotional support, religious ministry, and bereavement care to patients, families, caregivers, and staff.  Conducts religious services and chapel functions for patients, families and employees. Participates and conducts community educational programs. The Chaplain's ministry encourages the wholeness of the patient and is an integral part of the total healing team. Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience: Master's Degree in Theology, Divinity, Clinical Ministry, Chaplaincy or related field required. Two units of CPE required. Minimum one year of hospice, palliative care, healthcare chaplaincy, church ministry, home health, or related experience preferred. Minimum two years of Pastoral experience or Memorandum of Understanding and Agreement (MOUA) from Adventist Chaplaincy Ministries preferred. Experience participating as a member of an interdisciplinary care team preferred. 

Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of professional theological and medial ethical issues, as well as hospice philosophy and bereavement practices required.  Able to provide spiritual care effectively in diverse interfaith and multicultural settings; and establish and maintain collaborative relationships with patients, families, staff, volunteers, community clergy, and faith communities. Use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position. Speak clearly in person and over the phone.  Write clearly and concisely and document accurately and timely in electronic medical records.  Listen and interact with patients and their families.  Deliver educational and community presentations.  Deal effectively with family members and staff under stressful circumstances and cope with stressful situations.  Have a high regard for the dignity and worth of patients and their families, and be sensitive to emotional and spiritual signs of distress.  Work with minimum supervision and make independent decisions while interacting with other hospital staff. Able to concentrate on several assignments simultaneously and execute duties in an efficient manner with attention to detail. Distinguish colors as necessary; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone and identify and distinguish various sounds associate with the workplace; see adequately to read computer screens and written documentation necessary to the position; discern temperature variances through touch.

Licensures and Certifications: Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.  Ecclesiastical Endorsement required within one to two years of hire, preferably from an official Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) accrediting body. Completion of four units of CPE required within one to two years of hire.  Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) ministerial license or credential required if considered by the church a Spiritual Leader.
