We seek an emerging scholar, educator, and/or practitioner whose work advances the discipline of interior design and contributes to the school’s commitment to human health and well-being, environmental stewardship, and social responsibility.

Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching, scholarly and/or creative activity, and service to the university and the profession. The school welcomes applicants whose research, creative scholarship, and professional practice engage contemporary challenges and emerging opportunities in interior design and related fields.

The successful candidate will contribute to the school’s undergraduate and graduate curricula through innovative design studios, core courses that integrate interior design with specialized areas of knowledge, and electives that draw upon the candidate’s area of expertise. The typical teaching assignment consists of one 6-credit-hour design studio and one 3-credit-hour core course or elective each semester.

Candidates with experience teaching at the graduate level may have opportunities to contribute to the School’s Master of Science in Interior Design program. Candidates holding a Ph.D. may also have opportunities to participate in the College of Art & Design’s multi-track Doctor of Design program, which provides an interdisciplinary environment for advanced scholarship in design.

We particularly welcome candidates whose expertise complements and expands the School’s existing strengths in areas such as healthcare and evidence-based design, human behavior and performance, environmental and social sustainability, lighting and environmental systems, emerging technologies, design research, and related areas of interior design scholarship and practice.

The appointment will begin in August 2027.

Teaching: Course development and teaching in design studio, core classes and seminars. Teaching load may vary but will normally be two courses per semester, four courses per academic year (60%)

Research: Productive scholarly research and/or creative activities in current and developing areas of expertise. (30%)
