Livingston Associates is looking to add a lead carpenter to their growing team! This role is a hands-on working leadership position for an experienced, well-rounded carpenter capable of performing all phases of carpentry while leading and developing a small construction crew.
This individual must be able to independently perform and oversee work ranging from rough framing through finish carpentry, troubleshoot field conditions, read plans, determine materials and methods, and produce professional-quality finished work.
We are looking for someone who takes pride in their craft and is also patient, safety-conscious, kind, dependable, and willing to lead by example. An important part of this position is helping younger and less experienced employees develop their construction skills, confidence, work ethic, and understanding of the trades.
Position Summary:
The Lead Carpenter must be a team player who leads by example. We are looking for someone who is patient and willing to mentor younger employees, teach proper construction methods and safe work practices, and provide constructive guidance as employees develop their skills.
This individual must be safety-conscious, respectful, approachable, and professional and maintain regular communication with the Director regarding project progress, staffing, scheduling, materials, safety, and jobsite concerns.
The Lead Carpenter will also interact directly with clients and homeowners and must represent the company professionally, communicate respectfully, and maintain clean, organized, and safe jobsites.
A working knowledge of basic plumbing and electrical systems is strongly preferred, allowing the Lead Carpenter to recognize conditions, coordinate work with other trades, perform appropriate basic tasks within the scope of the position, and understand how carpentry work interacts with other building systems.

- Wood and metal stud framing.
- Drywall and insulation.
- Door and window installation and replacement.
- Cabinet and countertop installation.
- Interior and exterior trim, baseboard, and crown molding.
- Stair, deck, porch, railing, siding, and exterior construction.
- Repairs, renovations, remodeling, and punch-list work.
- Layout, field measurements, and troubleshooting existing conditions.
- Read and interpret blueprints, plans, details, specifications, and UL assemblies.
- Determine appropriate materials, tools, and installation methods.
- Manage daily jobsite activities and assigned crews.
- Schedule and coordinate workforce and subcontractors.
- Order and coordinate materials and deliveries.
- Prepare daily reports and document project progress.
- Conduct toolbox talks and reinforce safe work practices.
- Track extra work, ticket work, field changes, and punch-list items.
- Attend project and foreman meetings as required.
- Maintain quality, productivity, and safety standards.
- Work alongside the crew and assist with installations and equipment operation as needed.
General Building Systems Knowledge:
While this position is primarily carpentry-focused, preference will be given to candidates with a basic working knowledge of other building trades, particularly:
- Basic plumbing systems and components.
- Basic electrical systems and components.
- Understanding how plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and structural systems interact.
- Ability to recognize potential conflicts before walls and finishes are installed.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with electricians, plumbers, and other specialty trades.
- General troubleshooting and building-maintenance knowledge.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of hands-on carpentry/construction experience.
- Strong experience in both rough and finish carpentry.
- Commercial & Residential experience.
- Basic plumbing and electrical knowledge preferred.
- Ability to lead and mentor a small construction crew safely.
- Ability to read construction drawings, plans, specifications, and details.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- OSHA 10-Hour Construction certification required; OSHA 30 strongly preferred.
Compensation:
- $25.00-$40.00 per hour based on experience
