Located on 560 scenic acres along the Patuxent River in Calvert County, Maryland, JPPM is home to over 65 archaeological sites, more than 30 historic buildings and structures, and the Maryland Archaeological Conservation Laboratory. POSITION DUTIES
Main Purpose of Job�\r\nThe Facilities Technician provides facility and grounds maintenance and custodial\r\nservices for Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum (JPPM). The position performs\r\nmaintenance and repairs on buildings, grounds, tools, equipment, vehicles, and tractors.\r\nIt also provides custodial services for office areas, public buildings, restrooms, and\r\npicnic areas and undertakes daily equipment readings and performs scheduled\r\npreventative maintenance. The Facilities Technician will provide set-up and support for\r\npublic events, private rentals, and monitor facilities during daily operations, rentals, and\r\nevents to ensure that JPPM policies are being followed as well as monitor facilities to\r\nensure the safety and security of the site. This position provides facility-wide support in\r\nall areas mentioned above in order to allow the JPPM staff an adequate and safe\r\nworking environment in which to meet the mission of MDP and JPPM. Work hours will\r\ninclude some evenings, weekends, and holidays.\r\n\r\n\r\nPosition Duties�\r\n\r\nBuilding Maintenance�\r\n\r\n\r\n Performs and supports routine building maintenance and repair, including electrical,\r\n mechanical, plumbing, minor structural, interior, and decorative work. Inspects\r\n buildings, identifies needs, and assists in updating maintenance plans.�\r\n Inspects safety equipment to ensure proper operation.�\r\n\r\nVehicle & Equipment Maintenance�\r\n\r\n Ensures all JPPM vehicles and equipment—including portable units such as\r\n generators—are maintained according to schedule and that required paperwork is\r\n submitted to appropriate agencies. Inspects and performs preventative maintenance\r\n on vehicles and equipment and prepares them for seasonal changes.�\r\n Develops and updates maintenance schedules in consultation with the supervisor.�\r\n\r\nMechanical Systems Maintenance\r\n\r\n\r\n Assists in coordinating maintenance for mechanical equipment across JPPM, including\r\n development and revision of equipment maintenance schedules.�\r\n Conducts inspections, preventative maintenance, and scheduled checks of all installed\r\n equipment. Performs daily condition checks, adjustments, and repairs. Determines\r\n frequency and replaces intake air filters as needed.�\r\n Manages temperature, humidity, and hot water settings using Building Automation\r\n Systems (BAS).�\r\n\r\nGrounds Maintenance�\r\n\r\n\r\n Inspects grounds to ensure safety and security standards are met. Assists in developing\r\n and updating grounds maintenance schedules.�\r\n Maintains site appearance through mowing, trimming, clearing, and general grounds\r\n care. Ensures trails remain clear, safe, and accessible. Removes downed or hazardous\r\n limbs and trees to ensure visitor and staff safety.�\r\n\r\nEvent Monitoring & Facility Support�\r\n\r\n\r\n When scheduled, monitors events in the Patterson Center, Pavilion, MAC Meeting\r\n Room, and other venues during rentals. Performs related maintenance and custodial\r\n duties; ensures spaces are prepared, monitored, and secured.�\r\n Provides information and assistance to renters and ensures compliance with rental\r\n agreements, including event end times and required cleanup.�\r\n Represents JPPM to the public when supervisors are not on-site.�\r\n\r\nSecurity, Safety & Communication�\r\n\r\n\r\n Maintains clear communication with museum personnel and completes required logs,\r\n reports, and documentation.�\r\n Secures gates and buildings at the end of the day. Patrols the site, identifies unsafe or\r\n illegal activity, and addresses situations safely.�\r\n Monitors maintenance and security-related computer systems. Responds to alarms and\r\n takes appropriate action. Serves as first responder to building system alerts, security\r\n alarms, and fire alarms, assessing situations and notifying proper authorities.�\r\n Provides first aid and CPR when needed and contacts emergency personnel as\r\n appropriate. Interacts with law enforcement, DNR Police, firefighters, and rescue\r\n personnel.\r\n\r\n\r\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency\r\ncertificate.\r\nExperience: Three years of experience performing skilled trade work in plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, locksmith, masonry, painting, or welding work.�\r\nNote:�\r\n1. Candidates may substitute additional years of experience for the required education on a year-for-year basis.�\r\n2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher, as a non-commissioned officer in utilities classifications or mechanical maintenance management specialty codes in utility systems repair, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.\r\n
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to applicants�who possess the following preferred qualification(s).�Include clear and specific information on your application regarding�your qualifications.\r\n\r\n One year of experience in customer service or retail.�\r\n One year of experience in supporting private or public event planning, management, or execution that includes customer or stakeholder engagement.\r\n \r\n\r\n
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
1. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland. \r\n2. Employees in this classification who perform electrical work and are assigned to facilities that mandate licensed electricians must possess a current license as a Master Electrician or other appropriate electrician license from a local board or from the Maryland State Board of Master Electricians, 500 N. Calvert Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21202-3651. \r\n3. Employees in this classification who perform work as a plumber must possess a Maryland Journeyman/Gas Fitter License. \r\n
