POSITION DUTIES

The PSCS Mental\r\nHealth Professional Counselor Supervisor is the supervisory level of\r\nprofessional counseling work, at the Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor\r\nlevel, providing counseling services to inmates with mental health disorders by\r\nusing assessment, evaluation, intervention, rehabilitation, and treatment\r\nregimens. This position supervises Mental Health Professional Counselors\r\nincluding Mental Health Professional Counselor- Graduate (LGPC), Mental Health\r\nProfessional Counselor (LCPC), and Mental Health Professional Counselor-\r\nAdvanced. (LCPC). This position acts as the department head at their assigned\r\nfacility. This position applies directly to the mission specific nature of the\r\nDPSCS institution and administratively and clinically supervises the employees\r\nwithin the Office of Mental Health Services for the facility.�\r\n\r\n\r\nFunctioning as an independently licensed mental health\r\nprofessional, the PSCS Mental Health Professional Counselor- Supervisor is\r\nresponsible for providing mental health services to incarcerated persons within\r\na defined population of a DPSCS managed facility. The duties include but are\r\nnot limited to:\r\na. Assesses\r\nthe incarcerated person’s situation to determine the appropriate services using\r\nclinical interview techniques and assessment skills.\r\nb. Intervenes\r\nin crisis situations to de-escalate the situation and provide acute care using\r\nsuicide prevention planning and crisis intervention techniques.\r\nc. Develop\r\ntreatment plans and provides treatment to incarcerated persons who have\r\nsignificant mental or emotional disorders through the use of individual and/or\r\ngroup counseling.\r\nd. Develops\r\nand implements behavioral management plans for incarcerated persons that are\r\ndisruptive to the operation of the institution when necessary.\r\ne. Develops,\r\nimplements, and tracks programming for the assigned special program and/or\r\nspecial populations within the DPSCS managed facility\r\nf. Refers\r\nincarcerated persons for other services such as psychiatric care, inpatient\r\nmental health services, case management planning, medical evaluations,\r\naddictions services, etc.\r\n\r\n\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet all minimum (and\r\nselective) qualifications to be considered, and to appear on the list of people\r\neligible for hire. Please read all requirements before applying.\r\nEducation: Determined by the Maryland State Board of\r\nProfessional Counselors and Therapists under the requirements for Licensed\r\nClinical Professional Counselor (LCPC).\r\nExperience: Three years of experience providing\r\nprofessional counseling to clients with mental health disorders by using\r\nassessment, evaluation, intervention, rehabilitation and treatment regimens.\r\nNote:\r\n1. These requirements are established by the Maryland State\r\nBoard of Professional Counselors and Therapists. The Department of Budget and\r\nManagement, Office of Personnel Services and Benefits does not have the\r\nauthority to accept substitutions or equivalents.\r\n2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military\r\nservice experience as a commissioned officer in Mental or Behavioral Health\r\nCounseling classifications or Mental or Behavioral Health Nursing and\r\nSpecialist specialty codes in the counseling field of work on a year-for-year\r\nbasis for the required experience.\r\n\r\n\r\n�\r\n

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. In accordance with Health Occupations Title 17 and Code of Maryland Regulations 10.58.01.05, candidates placed in this classification must be licensed by the Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) \r\n2. Candidates appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.\r\n

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate must be fluent in spoken and written English. The ideal candidate must effectively and respectfully communicate with diverse populations, providing services to individuals with different beliefs, behaviors, and interpersonal styles in confinement or community settings. Professional working fluency in Spanish, Mandarin, Korean, or any other language is a plus.\r\n
