Medical Coding & Billing Specialist

The Medical Coding Specialist is a contract on-call position that could transition into a permanent full-time role. This position involves meticulously reviewing and analyzing ICD-10-CM and CPT codes for the medical services provided by our clients. It plays a crucial part in ensuring precise reimbursement and compliance with healthcare regulations. Responsibilities Daily review of the claim inspector to rectify code errors Examination of ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, and CPT codes for diagnoses, procedures, and services administered Detection and resolution of any discrepancies or missing details in medical records Monitoring of coding accuracy and identification of enhancement opportunities Execution of comprehensive code audits for new clients to pinpoint coding errors and ensure adherence to industry standards Analysis of medical records to guarantee completeness of documentation supporting the assigned codes Provision of coding education and training to clinicians and staff for an improved grasp of coding guidelines and enhanced documentation Sustaining updated knowledge of prevailing coding guidelines, regulations, and industry trends through continuous education and training Compliance assurance with all relevant federal and state regulations pertaining to medical coding Engagement in quality assurance activities to oversee coding accuracy and pinpoint areas necessitating improvement Review of current coding practices of clients to assess areas for advancement Gap analysis to evaluate client compliance with coding guidelines and identify documentation or coding practice gaps Development of recommendations to enhance coding accuracy, efficiency, and revenue Formulation and delivery of training programs to educate the client's staff on coding guidelines and optimal practices Continuous support and monitoring to ensure ongoing compliance with coding standards Requirements Certification: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification mandatory Experience: Minimum of 3 years in medical coding Knowledge: Profound understanding of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding guidelines, medical terminology, and anatomy and physiology Attention to Detail: Proficiency in accurately analyzing and interpreting medical records Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills to detect and resolve coding errors Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to liaise with clinicians effectively, staff, and management Organization: Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload efficiently
