Salary Information
Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade. \r\n**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations** \r\n
Nature of Work
This position is responsible for issuing or denying\r\nthe issuance of building permits. In order to determine whether or not permits\r\nshould be issued, the incumbents perform a variety of tasks to include researching,\r\nanalyzing, interpreting, and applying residential and commercial construction laws,\r\nordinances, regulations, and mandates. Specialists work with owners, owners’\r\nagents, contractors, designers, etc. to explain and coordinate the appropriate\r\ndocumentation and inspections necessary for permitting. The Specialists will\r\nalso review all of the documentation to determine completeness, determine what\r\nadditional steps are needed, and make decisions based on laws and policies.\r\nOnce the process has reached its conclusion, the incumbents calculate and\r\nrequest the payment of fees and enter data and develop reports to document the\r\nactivities and decisions made. Employees report directly to the Building Plans\r\nCoordinator.\r\n
Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s degree in building construction, engineering, architecture\r\nor a related field and four (4) years of technician level experience in an\r\narchitectural, construction, engineering, or related technical field.\r\n\r\n\r\nNOTE:� Qualifying education, training and experience\r\nthat provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job\r\nwill be considered.\r\n
Special Requirements
Certification from the International Code\r\nCouncil (ICC) in Code Enforcement or Permit Technician within the first two (2)\r\nyears of employment into the classification.\r\n
