The Sanitation Technician reports to the Sanitation Supervisor. The Technician cleans and sanitizes production equipment, processing areas, and facility spaces so the plant stays safe, sanitary, and compliant with food safety standards. This is an hourly, non-exempt position.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Clean and sanitize production equipment, floors, walls, drains, and overhead areas, following sanitation standard operating procedures (SSOPs), master sanitation schedules, and checklists.
- →Perform Wash in Place (WIP) procedures on processing equipment as directed by the Sanitation Lead.
- →Take apart and put back together equipment for cleaning, following Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- →Prepare, dilute, and apply cleaning chemicals and sanitizers according to Safety Data Sheets (SDS), manufacturer instructions, and company procedures.
- →Complete sanitation records accurately, including cleaning checklists, chemical concentration checks, and pre-operational inspection logs.
- →Follow allergen cleaning and changeover procedures to prevent cross-contact.
- →Clean restrooms, break rooms, locker rooms, and other common areas as scheduled.
- →Report sanitation problems, equipment damage, pest activity, or unsafe conditions to the Sanitation Lead right away.
- →Support Quality Assurance during pre-operational inspections, swabbing, and audits.
- →Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times and follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and all safety procedures.
- →Keep sanitation tools, hoses, and chemical storage areas clean and organized.
- →Perform other sanitation-related duties as assigned.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, including SSOPs, safety procedures, and chemical labels.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to a clean, safe work environment.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to complete basic written records accurately.
- Willingness to learn food safety, allergen control, and chemical safety practices.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous sanitation, janitorial, or food manufacturing experience preferred, but not required. Training is provided.
- Familiarity with cleaning chemicals, PPE, or Lockout/Tagout is a plus.
Requirements
~1 min readWork takes place in a food manufacturing facility where conditions are wet, noisy, and cold at times. This includes refrigerated and freezer areas, exposure to cleaning chemicals, and work around industrial equipment. Required PPE includes rubber boots, aprons, gloves, eye protection, and hearing protection.
- Standing and walking for long periods, up to 10 hours per shift.
- Frequent bending, kneeling, reaching, climbing ladders, and repetitive motion.
- Lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
- Working on wet or slippery floors and in temperatures that vary from hot water washdown to freezer conditions.
- Wearing required PPE for an entire shift.
- Full-time, 40 hours per week
- Shift: Monday through Friday: 8:00pm to 4:30am
- Overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed
