The Associate Director, IT – Commercial Data & Insights Architect serves as the primary IT leader responsible for Commercial data architecture, data products, master data strategy, and analytics enablement supporting Commercial, Medical Affairs, and Patient Services.
This role partners closely with Commercial stakeholders, Data & AI, and external partners to define how Commercial data is sourced, integrated, governed, modeled, and delivered to support reporting, analytics, customer engagement, omnichannel capabilities, and future AI-driven initiatives.
The position is accountable for Commercial data architecture, business data definitions, data quality standards, master data strategy, solution design, and Commercial analytics requirements. While enterprise data platforms, engineering standards, governance frameworks, and AI capabilities are provided by the Data & AI organization, this role remains accountable for ensuring Commercial data solutions align with business objectives and deliver trusted, scalable, and actionable insights.
The ideal candidate combines deep expertise in data architecture, pharmaceutical Commercial data, master data management, analytics enablement, and stakeholder engagement, while maintaining sufficient technical depth to guide implementation partners, review architecture decisions, and ensure long-term maintainability of Commercial data assets.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- Serve as the lead architect and technology owner for Commercial data and insights capabilities across Commercial, Medical Affairs, and Patient Services.
- Define and maintain the Commercial data architecture roadmap aligned with business priorities and the broader Commercial technology roadmap.
- Design scalable, reusable, and governed data architectures supporting analytics, reporting, omnichannel engagement, field operations, customer intelligence, and advanced analytics use cases.
- Establish Commercial data standards, architecture patterns, solution blueprints, and integration approaches that support current and future business needs.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, data products, architectural approaches, and commercial data capabilities based on business value, scalability, cost, security, and long-term maintainability.
- Define and oversee architecture for Commercial data warehouses, data marts, semantic models, and Commercial data products.
- Partner with Data & AI teams leveraging enterprise platforms such as Snowflake, Workato, Tableau and Power BI while ensuring Commercial requirements are fully represented.
- Design scalable data models and business-ready data assets supporting reporting, analytics, forecasting, customer engagement, segmentation, targeting, and performance measurement.
- Ensure Commercial data solutions provide a trusted and consistent source of information across business functions.
- Lead Commercial data architecture supporting HCP/HCO mastering, affiliations, hierarchies, customer identifiers, territory alignments, and reference data.
- Define master data requirements and integration strategies across CRM, patient services, specialty pharmacy, claims, payer, marketing, and third-party Commercial data sources.
- Partner with business stakeholders to establish trusted business definitions, ownership, stewardship, and governance processes for Commercial data assets.
- Ensure master data capabilities support business scalability, analytics, compliance, and customer engagement strategies.
- Serve as the primary IT partner for Commercial data, reporting, and analytics initiatives.
- Partner closely with Commercial Operations, Sales Leadership, Marketing, Medical Affairs, Patient Services, and Analytics stakeholders to understand business priorities and translate them into scalable data solutions.
- Support Commercial business planning, performance management, segmentation, targeting, omnichannel measurement, and customer engagement initiatives through trusted data and insights capabilities.
- Provide architecture recommendations, technical impact assessments, effort estimates, and implementation options supporting Commercial investment decisions.
- Facilitate prioritization of Commercial data initiatives based on business value, complexity, risk, and resource availability.
- Establish standards and controls for Commercial data quality, lineage, metadata, reconciliation, monitoring, auditability, and operational support.
- Define and enforce best practices for data lifecycle management, retention, archival, security, and access control.
- Partner with Security, Compliance, Privacy, and Data & AI organizations to ensure Commercial data solutions comply with corporate policies and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Ensure Commercial data assets remain accurate, timely, complete, trusted, and suitable for business decision making.
- Serve as the primary technical lead for implementation partners, consultants, and vendors supporting Commercial data initiatives.
- Provide technical leadership and architecture oversight for solution design, development, testing, deployment, and operational support activities.
- Review and challenge solution architecture, data models, pipelines, integrations, transformation logic, and technical deliverables to ensure quality and alignment with enterprise standards.
- Ensure appropriate documentation, knowledge transfer, operational readiness, and solution sustainability.
- Partner with the IT PMO and Commercial IT leadership to monitor project execution, risks, budgets, and delivery outcomes.
- Partner with the Data & AI organization to ensure Commercial solutions align with enterprise architecture, data governance, engineering standards, and AI enablement strategies.
- Support AI and machine learning initiatives by ensuring trusted, governed, and high-quality Commercial data products are available for analytics and AI use cases.
- Assist in identifying opportunities to leverage AI, automation, advanced analytics, and predictive insights to improve Commercial effectiveness and customer engagement.
Requirements
~1 min read- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Data Science, Business, or a related field.
- 8+ years of progressive experience in data architecture, data engineering, data warehousing, analytics, or related disciplines.
- Experience supporting pharmaceutical, biotechnology, healthcare, or other regulated industries preferred.
- Demonstrated success designing enterprise-scale data solutions supporting Commercial business functions.
- Experience leading cross-functional initiatives involving business stakeholders, vendors, and technology teams.
- Deep expertise in modern data architecture, dimensional and relational modeling, ETL/ELT design, data integration, metadata management, lineage, governance, and observability.
- Strong experience with Commercial pharmaceutical data including CRM, specialty pharmacy, claims, payer, digital engagement, sales, and customer master data.
- Experience with Snowflake, SQL, cloud-based data architectures, and modern integration technologies.
- Strong understanding of master data management concepts, including HCP/HCO mastering, affiliations, hierarchies, and reference data.
- Experience working with analytics and reporting platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, Salesforce Data Cloud, or similar technologies.
- Strong architecture leadership and solution design skills with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and business audiences.
- Proven ability to influence without direct authority across business stakeholders, technical teams, and external partners.
- Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making capabilities.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and facilitation skills.
- Ability to balance strategic architecture leadership with hands-on technical engagement.
- Deep understanding of Commercial pharmaceutical business processes and analytics requirements.
- Strong knowledge of data governance, privacy, security, and compliance concepts.
- Ability to translate complex business requirements into scalable and maintainable data solutions.
- Strong vendor management and consulting oversight capabilities.
- Ability to prioritize competing business demands and drive alignment across stakeholders.
- Commitment to data quality, business value realization, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
The salary range for this position is $215,000 to $230,000 USD. Compensation will be determined based on several factors including, but not limited to; skill set, years of experience, and the employee’s geographic location. Please note that the required compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity, or benefits unless otherwise provided.
