Monocle is an independent media brand with a global reputation for its coverage of international affairs, design, travel, fashion and more. Launched in London in 2007, the business includes our famed magazine, daily newsletters, a round-the-clock radio station and international events, as well as thriving shops, e-commerce and cafés. With HQs, bureaux and shops in Paris, Zürich, Tokyo, Merano and Hong Kong, we are a global team and proud to be a vital source of inspiration, analysis and ideas for our discerning audience.

We are looking for passionate and experienced baristas to join our team at The Monocle Café in Toronto.

Located on College Street in Little Italy, our newly refurbished shop and café bring together speciality coffee, fresh pastries and a smart selection of Monocle products in a welcoming, thoughtfully designed space featuring furniture by Swiss design brand USM.

We are seeking enthusiastic individuals who share our passion for excellent coffee, warm hospitality and attention to detail. As part of a small and dedicated team, you will play an important role in creating a welcoming atmosphere and delivering a consistently high standard of service.

The successful candidates will be responsible for:

• Preparing and serving high-quality espresso-based coffees, filter coffee and a selection of other beverages.
• Demonstrating strong barista skills and a thorough understanding of speciality coffee, including extraction, milk preparation and presentation.
• Providing friendly, attentive and professional customer service while building relationships with regular customers.
• Developing a thorough understanding of our menu, products and the Monocle brand.
• Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and organisation throughout the café.
• Ensuring proper use, cleaning and maintenance of coffee equipment.
• Accurately processing customer orders and payments.
• Supporting the team with stock management, daily opening and closing procedures.
• Assisting with Monocle events, launches and other special occasions.

Previous experience in a speciality-coffee environment is essential. We value individuals who are reliable, organised, proactive and comfortable working in a fast-paced hospitality environment.

Our café will operate seven days a week and candidates should be available to work flexible shifts, including on weekends.

Benefits include staff discounts at The Monocle Café and Shop, alongside the opportunity to be part of an international and creative team.

If you want to be part of a team that prides itself on delivering prompt, friendly and high-quality service, we would love to hear from you. Please send your CV and cover letter to Stephanie Kim at sk@monocle.com or apply directly through our careers site
