The Director of Process Improvement leads improvement initiatives, utilizing a wide range of improvement tools and methodologies that advance Mount Sinai Health System’s continuous improvement culture. The Director plans, manages and executes complex improvement initiatives and evaluates the impact of clinical or administrative improvement efforts (as applicable to scope of role), in order to achieve the mission and vision of the health system, effectively utilizing a wide range of project management skills and improvement tools and methodologies.  The Director acts as a leader for the department in day to day activities, and serves as a mentor and subject matter expert to other department executives and managers.

1.   Oversees and leads the execution of improvement initiatives through all project phases.  Effectively manage multiple concurrent projects and proactively identifies and mitigates resource constraints and changes in project scope
2.   Guides analysts in ascertaining the scope and plan for improvement initiatives, acquiring stakeholder buy-in and leadership support, and establishing metrics and milestones; Utilizes expertise in improvement methodologies to appropriately identify the correct design and approach for initiatives, can communicate approach to outside stakeholders unfamiliar with improvement tools and methodologies
3.   Oversee and grow ambulatory analytics and reporting team as a part of Strategic Ambulatory Operations in establishing standard KPIs, centralized reporting, and executing data-driven operational insights and improvements across the health system’s ambulatory footprint 
4.   Apply advanced analytical techniques and tools, including automation, scenario modeling/planning, and predictive analytics, in providing strategic directions and recommendations for the ambulatory’s short-term and long-term growth 
5.   Develop a deep understanding of ambulatory operations based on data, business trends, and anticipated operational intake to support continuous performance improvement
6.   Foster internal partnerships and collaborate with Digital Technology and Partners, Decision Support teams, and other system business intelligence and analytics teams in streamlining data structure, acquisition, and management processes to optimize operations efficiency
7.   Drive and sustain data integrity process designs and optimization activities to secure accurate alignment between data generation and operational workflows 
8.   Uses project management skills to lead development of project plans and timelines for improvement projects; delegates deliverables and tasks; coordinates project summary presentations; and maintains oversight of all project related tasks necessary for success.
9.   Coordinates and executes observational studies and evaluations to support improvement projects through interviews and in-person observations, and supporting data analysis
10.   Plans and executes complex data analysis to support leadership decision making in a variety of subject matter areas, including: process measures and performance metrics, scheduling, resource utilization, labor and productivity, quality measures, patient satisfaction measures, and demographic data
11.   Supervises data analysis efforts and provides feedback on approach and accuracy of findings.
12.   Effectively collaborates with stakeholders of all levels of staff, developing trusting working relationships with leadership, physicians, administration, and front line personnel.
13.   Oversees the creation of training content and administers didactic training curriculum on improvement tools and methodologies.
14.   Encourages the professional development of junior staff, through constructive feedback on project deliverables and as a role model in all project activities, in leadership or supporting roles; actively identifies opportunities to informally mentor staff.
15.   Maintains current knowledge of trends and evidence-based solutions for improving healthcare delivery and efficient operations.
16.   Drives continuous improvement within the department, contributing to the development of improved tools, project methods and internal knowledge base, and project evaluation.
17.   Performs other duties as required by senior leadership.
 

  • Bachelors' degree (Masters Preferred)
  • 7+  years of combined professional experience and/or graduate-level education relevant to healthcare operations, data analysis, strategic planning and process improvement including at least two years of directly managing staff or in a consulting model
  • Certification and/or working knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma methodologies is a plus.
  • Lean certification preferred

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $174,719.93 - $174,719.93 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
