Job Summary New H.O.P.E CDC is seeking a motivated and community-minded Community Engagement Intern to support development of Charter School by assisting with outreach initiative and engagement efforts throughout an exciting summer internship experience sponsored by Atlantic Union Bank. This internship provides hands-on experience in nonprofit community development, communications, event coordination, and relationship-building while contributing to meaningful initiatives that positively impact local communities. The internship is fully grant-funded for the complete 8-week duration, providing participants with professional development opportunities and practical experience in community engagement and nonprofit operations. Key Responsibilities The Community Engagement Intern will assist with: Supporting community outreach and engagement activities Assisting with planning and promoting workshops, events, and programs Conducting outreach to residents, partners, and community stakeholders Assisting with volunteer coordination and participant follow-up Collecting and organizing community feedback and engagement data Supporting administrative and program-related tasks as assigned Participating in team meetings, training, and community events Requirements Qualifications To be eligible for enrollment in the Community Engagement Internship Program, applicants must: Be currently enrolled in college, university, or a workforce development/training program; or be a recent graduate within the past 6 months Preferred candidates may have educational interests in: Communications Public Administration Social Work Business Administration Marketing Nonprofit Management Community Development Human Services Related fields of study No prior professional experience is required. Candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in community engagement, leadership, and professional growth. Professional Development Hired Intern must participate in the following Atlantic Union Bank sponsored professional development sessions: Kick-Off - June 9th at 12:00 pm Know Your Worth - June 25th at 3:00 pm Linked In: How to Show Up - July 14th at 11:00 pm Wrap-Up and Feedback - July 30th at 10:00 am Preferred Qualifications Ideal candidates should possess: Strong communication and interpersonal skills Interest in community development, nonprofit work, public service, or outreach Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a hybrid environment Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and social media platforms Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Positive attitude and willingness to learn Preferred but not required: Experience with community service, leadership, or volunteer activities Familiarity with Canva or social media content creation tools Work Environment & Physical Requirements This internship operates in a hybrid work environment, with the majority of responsibilities completed virtually and occasional in-person participation required for meetings, trainings, community outreach activities, and special events. Interns should be comfortable working independently in a remote setting while maintaining regular communication with supervisors and team members through email, virtual meetings, and collaborative platforms. The role may include: Virtual team meetings and project collaboration In-person community events and outreach activities as needed Flexible work assignments in a fast-paced nonprofit environment Opportunities to engage with community members, partners, and local stakeholders A supportive and mentorship-focused professional setting that encourages learning, creativity, and teamwork Interns are expected to maintain professionalism, reliability, and responsiveness in both virtual and in-person settings.
