Position: Financial Accountant
Status: Full time, permanent
Location: Ohio History Center, Columbus OH
Salary: $55,000-60,000 per year

Summary:
The Financial Accountant works as part of the accounting team to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting. Responsible for month-end and year-end closing processes and financial statement preparation; maintaining various financial schedules for accrual and project management purposes; performing monthly reconciliations on balance sheet accounts. The Financial Accountant serves in a primary supporting role to the Accounting Manager in matters related to the organization's financial reporting and oversight.
Essential Functions:
- Prepare timely and accurate monthly financial statements, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules in accordance with GAAP.
- Maintain the general ledger, accrued revenue and expense schedules, and ensure the integrity of financial records.
- Assist with the development, monitoring, and documentation of the annual organizational budget.
- Manage accounting and financial reporting for major capital projects, including State Capital Appropriations, OFCC billings, and funding releases.
- Monitor and report on GRF revenue, contribution revenue, intercompany transactions, and foundation-related accounting activities.
- Maintain fixed asset records, including capitalization, depreciation, and related reporting requirements.
- Review weekly invoice reports and provide financial analysis, recommendations, and support to departments and management.
- Support the annual audit, year-end close process, and compliance with federal, state, grant, and organizational requirements.
- Develop, implement, and communicate financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to improve operational effectiveness.
- Provide financial guidance, resolve accounting issues, maintain professional expertise, and perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field PLUS three to five years relevant working experience.
Desired Skills & Experience:
- Working knowledge of accounting systems
- A strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) is essential for accurate financial reporting
- Understanding of internal controls and fraud prevention in accounting and payroll practices
- Understand basic project management processes
- Ability to communicate with staff and the public, both orally and in writing.
- Excellent presentation skills.
- Understanding of financial reporting and budgeting processes
- Proficiency in various office software suites and virtual platforms, including but not limited to Microsoft 365.
- Effective organizational skills, including attention to detail, prioritizing and managing multiple tasks for yourself, and being accountable to the organization for said tasks
