DIRECTOR, SKILLS AND SIMULATION FOR NURSING PROGRAMS

The Director for Skills and Simulation works under the supervision of the Dean of Nursing. This position is responsible for directing all skills and simulation experiences for all nursing students by collaborating with the Program Directors to identify evidence-based learning opportunities. The position supports the mission and philosophy of the College and represents the College to campus visitors, faculty, and students.

 

  • Lead and manage all nursing simulation and skill lab activities.
  • Design and evaluate simulation scenarios based on evidence-based educational principles and content.
  • Update simulations each term with input from lead faculty and student survey data from previous term.
  • Coordinate with all lead faculty simulations, and scheduling skills rooms on campus for testing.
  • Coordinate and supervise the general operation of the simulation laboratory/center to provide a wide variety of patient simulation experiences.
  • Oversee the regular maintenance and repair all simulation equipment along with a Simulation Technician.
  • Orient all students and faculty to simulation lab.
  • Facilitate all high-fidelity simulations according to simulation best practice standards.
  • Train and evaluate all simulation facilitators using best practice standards.
  • Supervision and management of simulation personnel, including timecards, creating schedules, approving time off requests, and conducting annual performance reviews.
  • Update and maintain policies and procedures within simulation best practice standards.
  • Ensure growth of the simulation program, updating program/scenarios based on latest evidence.
  • Collaborate with the nursing departments in development, facilitation and evaluating simulation activities for their students; collaborate with the LVN Simulation Coordinator.
  • Assist with teaching skills lab as needed.
  • Create standardized patient scripts and train standardized patients.
  • Act as standardized patients in simulation if needed.
  • Edit and maintain all electronic medical records for simulated patients.
  • Participate in curriculum development and course scheduling. Adapt curriculum, as needed to meet the requirements of the BRN, WSCUC, and other governing agencies.
  • Communicate with BRN, WSCUC, CCNE, and other governing agencies as needed.
  • Assist the Program Directors in preparing compliance material as requested by governing agencies.
  • Participate in college governance meetings.
  • Complete program evaluation and needs assessment each year.
  • Complete additional duties or tasks delegated by the Dean of Nursing.

  2. Principles and practices of administration, supervision, and education.

  4. Interpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  5. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  6. Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
  7. Meet schedules and timelines.

 

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing, including complex proposals and presentations.
  2. Operation of a computer including Microsoft Office and the Windows Operating System.

 

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:

Applicants are required to have the following:

  1. A master’s degree: a doctoral degree is preferred.
  2. Demonstrated success of at least two years working in skills and simulation labs or centers; Certified Healthcare Simulation Education (CHSE) experience preferred.
