The Electrical & Power Engineering Intern supports the planning, design, estimating, and execution of electrical construction projects while gaining an understanding of how engineering principles are applied in the real world. Working alongside Engineering, Estimating, Project Management, VDC, Prefabrication, Safety, Operations, and field leaders, the intern helps support technical reviews, calculations, design coordination, project documentation, and construction planning activities.

This internship is designed for students pursuing Electrical Engineering or a related degree who are interested in power systems, electrical infrastructure, and construction. Interns will gain exposure to the complete project lifecycle while learning how electrical systems are designed, estimated, coordinated, constructed, tested, and commissioned.

The internship provides meaningful project exposure while developing the technical, professional, and business skills needed for future careers in engineering, project management, estimating, design-build, and electrical construction leadership.

Responsibilities

  • →The technical principles behind electrical construction and power infrastructure.
  • →Electrical system design, drawings, specifications, calculations, codes, and quality standards.
  • →How Engineering, Estimating, Project Management, VDC, Prefabrication, Safety, and Operations work together.
  • →Power distribution, lighting, controls, and electrical infrastructure systems.
  • →Construction planning, installation methods, testing, and commissioning.
  • →Professional communication, teamwork, accountability, and problem-solving in a construction environment.
  • →The complete lifecycle of an electrical construction project from concept through closeout.
  • Complete required safety training and follow all company, customer, and jobsite requirements.
  • Participate in supervised jobsite visits, field observations, and pre-task planning discussions.
  • Observe how safety, quality, productivity, and schedule performance influence project success.
  • Learn safe work practices associated with electrical construction and power infrastructure.
  • Communicate safety concerns, observations, and questions through appropriate channels.
  • Assist with reviewing electrical drawings, specifications, submittals, and construction documents.
  • Support engineers with basic electrical calculations, design reviews, and technical documentation.
  • Learn how power distribution systems are designed to meet customer, project, and code requirements.
  • Participate in equipment selection and system design discussions.
  • Assist with technical research related to electrical systems, materials, equipment, and industry standards.
  • Develop an understanding of electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, and system layouts.
  • Assist with reviewing plans and specifications for completeness and constructability.
  • Learn how engineering standards, quality requirements, and the National Electrical Code influence project design and installation.
  • Participate in design reviews and coordination meetings.
  • Support technical document organization, revision control, and record management.
  • Assist with quantity takeoffs, material counts, and scope review activities.
  • Learn how labor, material, equipment, and risk are considered during estimating.
  • Support bid preparation, budget development, and preconstruction planning.
  • Understand how estimates transition into project execution.
  • Participate in project kickoff and turnover activities.
  • Work with project teams to understand how engineering, estimating, procurement, and field operations collaborate.
  • Attend project meetings and document action items and follow-up activities.
  • Assist with project planning, scheduling, and tracking activities.
  • Learn how materials, equipment, and resources are coordinated to support field installation.
  • Observe how engineering decisions affect constructability, productivity, quality, and project outcomes.
  • Learn quality assurance and quality control processes used during construction.
  • Assist with project closeout documentation, as-built drawings, and turnover packages.
  • Observe testing, startup, and commissioning activities when available.
  • Develop an understanding of system performance verification and customer acceptance requirements.
  • Participate in lessons-learned and continuous-improvement discussions.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Interest in electrical construction, power systems, engineering, estimating, design-build, or field operations.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Ability and willingness to learn technical software, construction systems, drawings, and engineering tools used by the company.
  • Ability to travel locally to project sites and work in both office and active construction environments as required.

The internship includes both office and jobsite work. Office responsibilities may require extended periods of sitting, standing, and computer use. Jobsite visits may involve walking or standing for extended periods, stairs or uneven surfaces, outdoor conditions, noise, proximity to construction equipment, and required personal protective equipment. Jobsite activities will be performed under appropriate supervision and in accordance with company and customer safety requirements.
