Customer Engineer (Staff Engineer) – Automotive Cockpit

## Company: Qualcomm CDMA Technologies, Y.K. ## Job Area: Engineering Group, Engineering Group > Software Applications Engineering General Summary: About the Role Qualcomm Japan is seeking a highly motivated Customer Engineer to support leading automotive customers developing next-generation cockpit platforms powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon® technologies. In this customer-facing role, you will work closely with automotive OEMs, Tier-1 suppliers, and Qualcomm engineering teams worldwide to understand customer requirements, resolve technical challenges, and help customers successfully develop and launch innovative automotive products. The ideal candidate combines strong embedded software expertise, automotive system knowledge, and a customer-first mindset. This position requires both technical depth and the ability to build trusted relationships with customers and internal stakeholders. Responsibilities · Support automotive customers developing products based on Snapdragon Cockpit platforms. · Understand and analyze customer requirements and translate them into technical solutions. · Drive technical discussions with customers and internal engineering teams. · Debug and resolve complex software and system-level issues. · Perform root cause analysis using logs, source code, and system-level debugging tools. · Collaborate with global development teams to drive issue resolution and feature enablement. · Support product integration, validation, and commercialization activities. · Act as a trusted technical partner and advocate for customer success. Required Qualifications · Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. · 5+ years of experience in embedded software, automotive systems, customer engineering, FAE, or related technical roles. · Strong programming skills in C with hands-on software development and debugging experience. · Solid understanding of embedded systems and operating systems such as Android, Linux, QNX, or RTOS. · Knowledge of automotive cockpit systems, infotainment, IVI, digital clusters, connectivity, or related technologies. · Experience with Git or other source code management systems, including branching, merging, code review, and change tracking. · Strong debugging, root cause analysis, and problem-solving skills. · Ability to analyze customer requirements and communicate effectively with both customers and engineering teams. · Native or business-level Japanese communication skills. · Business-level English communication skills. Preferred Qualifications · Experience with Snapdragon Automotive platforms or similar automotive SoCs. · Experience working with automotive OEMs or Tier-1 suppliers. · Knowledge of Android Automotive OS, virtualization, cybersecurity, AI/ML, or functional safety. · Experience with Gerrit, GitHub, GitLab, Jenkins, or CI/CD development environments. · Experience in a customer-facing engineering or FAE role. Minimum Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 4+ years of Software Applications Engineering, Software Development experience, or related work experience. OR Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 3+ years of Software Applications Engineering, Software Development experience, or related work experience. OR PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 2+ years of Software Applications Engineering, Software Development experience, or related work experience. • 2+ years of experience with Programming Language such as C, C++, Java, Python, etc. • 1+ year of experience with debugging techniques.
