Radical AI is replacing an R&D process that currently takes 10+ years and $100 million to produce a single discovery. Our self-driving lab platform combines AI with autonomous robotics to run experiments, analyze results, and iterate—continuously, without human bottlenecks. For industries like aerospace, automotive, defense, energy, manufacturing, semiconductors, and space, that means breakthroughs in weeks instead of years.
We are looking for a hands-on Laboratory Operations Specialist to help keep our self-driving lab running efficiently. In this role, you will oversee day-to-day lab operations, supporting activities such as sample handling and preparation, inventory and consumables management, equipment maintenance tracking, and vendor coordination. Your work will play a key role in maintaining laboratory throughput and ensuring smooth execution of core lab activities. This is an on-site position based in New York City.
  • Manage sample intake, labeling, storage, and tracking across active experiments

  • Monitor and replenish consumables; maintain accurate inventory records

  • Coordinate process gas supply including ordering, receipt, and safe handling

  • Support equipment maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting for instruments including XRD, XRF, and SEM

  • Coordinate with vendors for equipment service and supply deliveries

  • Maintain lab safety compliance: labeling, waste disposal, SDS records, and regulatory requirements

  • Track lab status and flag issues proactively to the research team

  • Assist scientists with sample preparation and basic characterization tasks as needed

  • Support onboarding of new lab users and maintain SOPs

  • B.S. in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field

  • 1+ year of professional lab experience (lab tech, research assistant, or equivalent)

  • Hands-on experience with common lab instruments and techniques

  • Experience managing consumables, chemical inventory, or gas supply a strong plus

  • Familiarity with lab safety practices and OSHA/EH&S requirements

  • Highly organized, reliable, and proactive

  • Comfortable in a fast-paced startup environment where priorities shift quickly

  • Based in New York City
