Legal Graduate - Specialist Insurance Claims & Operations

A prominent specialist underwriting management agency in the financial services and special risks insurance sector is seeking an ambitious Legal Graduate to join their team on a learnership in Johannesburg. This entry-level position is designed for an articulate law graduate looking to transition academic legal knowledge into a dynamic corporate insurance environment. The successful candidate will work alongside senior underwriting and claims specialists, managing claims assessments, interpreting policy wording, supporting compliance processes, and delivering high-quality operational support. Working hours are full-time, Monday to Friday, from 08:00 to 17:00. Key Responsibilities: Review and process incoming specialist insurance claims in line with policy terms, quality guidelines, and internal service level standards. Assist senior claims managers with legal research, contract analysis, and liability assessments across niche commercial product lines. Communicate clearly and professionally with brokers, policyholders, and external legal representatives regarding claims queries and updates. Ensure strict adherence to insurance regulations, regulatory compliance frameworks, and internal risk procedures. Draft concise legal correspondence, claim summaries, and internal status reports. Maintain complete accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality when managing client files and record management systems. Requirements Completed LLB degree or equivalent legal qualification from a recognised institution. Strong analytical, investigative, and legal research skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. High attention to detail with an ability to interpret complex legal and policy documents. Demonstrable interest in corporate governance, financial services, or short-term insurance law. South African citizenship. Preferred Qualifications: Completed Practical Legal Training (PLT) or articles of clerkship (advantageous, though not required). Exposure to financial services, commercial law, or dispute resolution during tertiary studies.
