About the Role
~1 min readJoin the Maternity and Paediatric Ward team at Mount Gambier & Districts Health Service as an Administration Officer – Ward Clerk. You will provide welcoming, confidential and efficient support to patients, families, visitors and staff while helping the ward run smoothly. Your responsibilities include registering patients and managing admissions, discharges and transfers in Sunrise EMR, maintaining accurate electronic and paper medical records, responding to enquiries and supporting communication between nursing, medical and administrative teams. You will also assist with ward supplies, correspondence and everyday administrative tasks. Your attention to detail will support safe, coordinated and patient-focused care.
You are an organised, approachable administration professional who communicates clearly and handles sensitive information with discretion. You can balance competing priorities, work effectively under pressure and contribute to a multidisciplinary team. Strong computer and data-entry skills, sound customer service and the ability to work with limited supervision will help you succeed.
To succeed in the Administration Officer – Ward Clerk role, you will:
- Communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, families, staff and external services.
- Maintain confidentiality and accurate records, with strong computer and data-entry skills.
- Provide courteous customer service and manage competing priorities in a busy ward.
- Work independently and collaboratively, including when handling difficult situations.
- Bring administrative/customer service experience; Sunrise EMR experience is desirable.
Based at Mount Gambier & Districts Health Service, the Maternity and Paediatric Ward supports patients and families during important stages of care. The Ward Clerk provides essential administrative and customer service support, including patient registration, medical records and coordination of ward communications.

- A current Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) for employment involving unsupervised contact with vulnerable groups is required.
