The Physician Assistant provides medical care to patients in the Medical Short Stay Unit, working collaboratively with physicians and other members of the healthcare team. With a typical patient load of 6–10 patients per shift and lower patient acuity, the position offers a manageable pace and strong work-life balance.

STATUS: Full Time

LOCATION: Rochester General Hospital

DEPARTMENT: Medical Short Stay Unit

SCHEDULE: Rotating 12-hour shifts; 2 weekends/month; no call

RESPONSIBILITIES

Patient Care. Provides care for an average of 6–10 patients per shift within the Medical Short Stay Unit.
Patient Satisfaction. Interacts regularly with patients, family members, medical and social services, regulatory agencies and payor agencies. Communication requires empathy, understanding, problem-solving, education, information gathering, process influencing and counseling.
Medication & Orders. Prescribes drugs, devices and immunizing agents according to policy and practice agreement.
Collaboration. Performs therapeutic and corrective measures within the area of expertise in collaboration with other healthcare team members.

Moderate - Clinical - Moderate clinical roles are patient facing roles that require continual movement, including standing, walking, and lifting 20–50 lbs., along with pushing and pulling medical equipment and assisting with patient positioning.
