NBPI/Quality Assurance

South Bay Sand Blasting & Tank Cleaning, Inc. is seeking an experienced Quality Assurance Inspector to support ship repair operations (including preservation/non-skid). The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience performing quality inspections in accordance with NAVSEA Standard Items and applicable technical requirements.

Our work includes tank cleaning, technical flushing, surface preparation and preservation, aboard U.S. Navy and commercial vessels.

• →Perform Quality Assurance inspections for ship repair activities that include tank cleaning, technical flushing and preservation related work.
• →Conduct requires inspections and checkpoints in accordance with NAVSEA Standard Items, specifications, work items, and company procedures.
• →Inspect surface preparation, environmental conditions, coating application, cure, dry film thickness (DFT), and final acceptance requirements.
• →Verify work is completed in accordance with applicable technical requirements and manufacturer specifications.
• →Perform and document required quality checkpoints for tank cleaning, preservation, and technical flushing operations, as applicable.
• →Prepare and maintain accurate inspection records, reports, objective quality evidence, and required QA documentation (PCP-PSP-Cap-Sheet OQE).
• →Coordinate with Production, Project Management, customers, and other QA personnel to ensure required inspections are completed without delaying production.
• →Identify and document deficiencies or nonconforming conditions and verify corrective actions prior to acceptance.
• →Ensure calibrated inspection equipment is properly maintained and used.
• →Participate in customer and government inspections as required.
• →Support audits and quality reviews.
• →Maintain a strong understanding of NAVSEA Standard Items and applicable contract requirements.

• Current NBPI or NACE certification/qualification preferred.
• Proficient with MS Office (Outlook-Excel-Word)
• Previous QA/QC experience in U.S. Navy ship repair, shipyards, or marine preservation strongly preferred.
• Working knowledge of NAVSEA Standard Items, particularly requirements applicable to surface preparation and preservation.
• Experience inspecting coatings, surface preparation, environmental conditions, DFT, and preservation processes.
• Familiarity with tank cleaning and/or technical flushing is a plus.
• Ability to read and interpret work specifications, technical documents, drawings, and inspection requirements.
• Strong documentation and communication skills.
• Ability to work closely with Production while maintaining independent QA responsibilities and inspection requirements.
• Must be able to access shipyards and U.S. Navy installations as required.
• Must be willing and able to travel as necessary based on project and operational needs.
• Must be willing to work varying shifts, weekends, and overtime when project requirements dictate.

• NBPI or NACE coating inspection certifications.
• NAVSEA ship repair experience.
• Experience with NAVSEA Standard Item requirements.
• Experience with NBPI-NACE documentation and inspection checkpoints (appendices and logs).
• Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management systems.
• Experience working with Navy prime contractors and shipyard QA organizations.

This position requires someone who is detail oriented, dependable, and comfortable working in an active ship repair environment. The QA Inspector is expected to maintain quality requirements while communicating effectively with Production and ensuring inspections and documentation are completed accurately and on time.

Travel may be required to support projects at other facilities or customer locations based on operational needs.
