Company Overview:
The company is a commercial finance intermediary specializing in SBA-guaranteed financing. They source, structure, and place 7(a) and 504 transactions with a network of national and regional SBA lenders — with particular depth in business acquisition financing, including partial buyouts, change-of-ownership transactions, and search-fund and independent-sponsor deals.
They are not a lender. They are the party that gets a deal properly structured, matched to the right lender's credit box, and driven to a funded close. Their value is judgment and lender relationships, not volume for its own sake.
Role Overview:
They are adding a Business Development Officer to originate SBA loan opportunities. This is a producer role for someone who already has a referral network and knows how to work it — not a role where we hand you a lead list and a script.
You will own your pipeline end to end: sourcing clients and selling a $2,500 - $3,000 buy side consulting agreement, sourcing referral relationships, qualifying opportunities against real lender appetite, and shepherding files from initial conversation to funding. Uncapped earnings, no territory ceiling, and no artificial constraints on how you build your book.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Source SBA 7(a) and 504 loan opportunities in the $250,000 to $5,000,000 range, with an emphasis on business acquisition and change-of-ownership transactions
- Build and maintain a referral network across business brokers, M&A advisors, CPAs, wealth managers, franchise consultants, attorneys, and direct small-business owners
- Conduct initial qualification: deal viability, borrower credit profile, equity injection sources, DSCR feasibility, and eligibility screening
- Match transactions to the right lender within Everbridge's network based on credit appetite, structure tolerance, industry preference, and speed
- Prepare or coordinate preparation of complete, credible submission packages
- Manage the borrower and lender relationship through underwriting, approval, and closing — you stay on the file
- Maintain accurate, current pipeline data in HubSpot
- Execute SBA Form 159 for every applicable transaction and comply fully with SBA agent conduct rules
- Represent Everbridge at industry events, broker networks, and referral-source functions
Minimum Qualifications:
- Originating SBA 7(a) and/or 504 loans, at a lender, CDC, or brokerage
- Demonstrated production history — be prepared to discuss annual funded volume and deal count
- Working knowledge of SOP 50 10 8 and the SOP 50 10 8.1 changes effective October 1, 2026, including the 1.25x DSC floor on initial acquisitions, the $3M Quality of Earnings threshold, and revised investor-equity treatment
- Command of SBA eligibility, structure, and credit fundamentals: equity injection rules, seller notes and standby treatment, change-of-ownership requirements, collateral and life insurance requirements, personal guaranty thresholds
- Ability to have a substantive structuring conversation with a business owner without a credit officer in the room
Preferred Qualifications:
- An existing, active referral network you can bring with you, subject to any enforceable obligations to prior employers
- Experience with partial buyouts and 80/20-style ownership structures
- Existing relationships with active national SBA lenders
- NAGGL training or comparable formal SBA credentials
- Experience with self-funded search, ETA buyers, or independent sponsors
- Fluency in HubSpot and lender portals
- Prior credit or packaging experience — you can spot a dead deal before the lender does
- Ramp period: first [90] days for network activation and pipeline build
- Sustained non-production may result in termination of the engagement per the terms of the agreement
