Senior Residential Drafter (U.S. Wood-Frame / Stick-Frame)

• Schedule: Full-time, Monday – Friday (9:00 AM – 5:00 PM Mountain Standard Time / MST, with early release on Fridays)
• Location: 100% Remote (Accepting candidates across Latin America, Eastern Europe, India, and the Philippines)
• Compensation Range: $2,000 – $4,000 USD / month (~$24,000 – $48,000 USD / year, dependent on region, skills, and depth of U.S. residential experience)

Our client is a growing residential design and architectural drafting firm specializing in high-quality construction documentation, floor plans, and framing details for custom homes and residential developments across North America. Known for precision, buildability, and structural accuracy, we partner with state-side builders, contractors, and designers to translate architectural visions into clean, permit-ready drawing sets.

As we expand our production capacity and prepare for an upcoming large-scale client rollout, we are seeking a seasoned Senior Residential Drafter with specialized experience in U.S. wood-frame (stick-frame) construction to join our remote team.

Role Overview

As a Senior Residential Drafter, you will play a central role in producing detailed, production-grade residential construction documents. Working in close collaboration with our U.S.-based lead drafter and project team, you will turn design concepts, sketches, and client redlines into fully realized, permit-ready architectural packages.

The primary requirement for this role is extensive, practical knowledge of U.S. residential stick-frame framing and assembly standards. You must understand how a house goes together on-site—from foundations and wall assemblies to joists, rafters, and trusses—and be able to draft clean, buildable sets without needing basic framing rules explained.

Key Responsibilities

1. Construction Documentation & Plan Production

• Develop complete, permit-ready residential drawing sets, including floor plans, foundation plans, roof plans, exterior/interior elevations, and cross-sections.
• Draft detailed structural framing plans tailored specifically to U.S. wood-frame (stick-frame) construction techniques.
• Incorporate dimensional specifications, wall callouts, structural framing notes, window/door schedules, and weather-proofing details accurately into CAD packages.
• Convert architectural concepts, rough sketches, and redline sets into structured, production-grade drawing packages.
• Ensure all technical outputs align with standard U.S. residential building codes and regional construction logic.

2. Stick-Frame Detailing & Structural Logic

• Apply deep understanding of timber framing, floor joist layouts, shear walls, load paths, and roof truss systems to all plans.
• Draft connection details, including wall-to-foundation joints, floor-to-wall interfaces, roof overhangs, and header/post configurations.
• Identify framing discrepancies or structural conflicts early in the process and propose practical, buildable solutions.

3. Collaboration & Workflow

• Coordinate daily with the U.S. Lead Drafter to review project scopes, clarify technical requirements, and execute check-set revisions.
• Maintain clean CAD file structures, layer standards, block libraries, and organized project templates.
• Maintain clear communication during standard MST business hours to ensure smooth project handoffs.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of dedicated professional experience in residential architectural drafting and construction documentation.
• Proven experience drafting for U.S. residential stick-frame (wood-frame) construction—this is a strict requirement.
• Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and/or flexible experience with residential CAD tools like SoftPlan or Chief Architect (Revit experience is welcome, but lightweight residential tools are preferred).
• Strong understanding of North American residential building codes, conventional framing logic, and structural detailing.
• Fluent written and spoken English communication skills for seamless remote collaboration and daily updates.
• High technical precision, spatial awareness, and strong attention to drafting detail.
• Reliable high-speed internet connection and a workstation capable of running residential CAD software smoothly.
• Availability to work full-time hours overlapping with Mountain Standard Time (MST) business hours.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience drafting directly for U.S. home builders, framing contractors, or residential architecture firms.
• Hands-on experience or familiarity with SoftPlan, Chief Architect, Bluebeam, or Rhino.
• Formal educational background in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Architectural Technology, or Drafting (an architectural license is NOT required).
• Bilingual skills (e.g., English / Spanish or English / Portuguese) are a beneficial plus.

Software & Tools Used

• Primary CAD Software: AutoCAD, Chief Architect, or SoftPlan
• Document & Markup: Bluebeam Revu, Adobe Acrobat, or PDF tools
• Collaboration & Storage: Google Workspace, Slack, Zoom / Microsoft Teams
