Job Title: Tax Compliance Officer
Salary: $1000-$2000
Remote, full-time
Location: LATAM (Mexico preferred)

Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Tax Compliance Officer to ensure accurate tax reporting, regulatory compliance, and financial record management. This role requires strong knowledge of accounting processes, tax regulations, and financial systems. The ideal candidate will be proficient in QuickBooks and Gusto, with the ability to manage payroll-related tax compliance and maintain accurate financial records in a fast-paced environment.

If you have not prepared and e‑filed 1120s using a tax software for at least two tax seasons, please do not apply. This role is ideal for a compliance-focused accounting professional who enjoys maintaining financial accuracy and ensuring organizations meet all regulatory and tax obligations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations
  • Prepare and review tax filings, including payroll taxes, sales tax, and other regulatory submissions
  • Maintain accurate financial records and reconcile accounts using QuickBooks
  • Manage payroll compliance, reporting, and tax filings through Gusto
  • Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, and tax advisors as needed
  • Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations to ensure ongoing compliance
  • Assist with financial reporting and documentation for audits
  • Review and reconcile payroll records, deductions, and tax liabilities
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies in financial or tax records
  • Maintain organized documentation and compliance records for internal and external reporting

Requirements

  • Proven experience in US tax compliance, accounting, or finance
  • Technical tax bar Non‑negotiable:

3+ full seasons doing individual + business returns.
Must have hands‑on experience preparing and e‑filing:
1040 + Sched C
1120S
1120 (C‑corps)

  • Comfortable with:
    Balance sheet + P&L tie‑outs
    M‑1 / M‑2
Depreciation, vehicle, home office, mixed‑use expenses
In the technical interview you will be tested on 1120s:
Build / review an 1120 from trial balance
    Explain book vs tax differences
Walk through their logic out loud
If they “mostly did 1040s” and “helped a bit on business returns,” that’s a no.
  • Software stack Non‑negotiable:
2+ seasons in at least one of:
    Lacerte
    ProSeries
    ProConnect
    Drake
  • Can prove it by:
Walking you through a return in a screen‑share test
Using diagnostics, overrides, e‑file steps confidently
Setting up organizers / client letters inside the software
Nice‑to‑have (not required, but strong signal): has worked in two of the three and can adapt quickly.

  • Process & documentation Non‑negotiables:
Uses checklists and leaves clear workpapers in the file
Can take a messy client (multiple 1099s, Stripe, PayPal, brand deals) and:
    Document assumptions
    Note open items
Make it easy for a reviewer to follow
We will test this by giving them a sample client packet and 60–90 minutes to prep, then review their file together.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Experience supporting audits and working with external CPAs
  • Familiarity with multi-entity or multi-state tax environments

Work Environment

  • Remote work environment
  • Requires a reliable computer, stable internet connection, and professional remote setup
