The Senior Reporting Analyst is responsible for the organization's enterprise reporting strategy and Sigma business intelligence platform. This role works with business leaders to understand how they measure success and develops reporting that helps them monitor performance, identify issues, and understand the operational drivers behind key metrics. This role will establish a unified reporting approach in Sigma that reduces manual effort, standardizes metrics, and provides a consistent reporting experience across the organization.
As the organization's Sigma subject matter expert, the Senior Reporting Analyst is responsible for the administration, governance, and ongoing development of the platform. This includes establishing reporting standards, reusable data models, dashboard design guidelines, security, and development best practices that create a consistent and scalable reporting environment.
The Senior Reporting Analyst will also lead the adoption of Sigma across the organization by promoting best practices, training business users and report developers, and building self-service reporting capabilities. This role serves as an advocate for modern reporting practices, helping teams understand how to use Sigma effectively while reducing reliance on manual reporting and spreadsheet-based analysis.
This position sits in the Analytics Engineering organization which plays a crucial role in building robust and reliable data pipelines and data models that enable data-driven decision-making, powering various analytics, AI, and machine learning initiatives within Coursera.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Partner with business leaders to understand organizational goals, business processes, and how success is measured across functional areas.
- →Facilitate discussions with business teams to define KPIs and reporting requirements, while challenging assumptions and recommending alternative approaches when they better support decision-making.
- →Develop reporting frameworks that support root cause analysis by allowing users to move from high-level KPIs to the underlying operational metrics and detailed data needed to investigate trends, exceptions, and performance issues. Creates solutions that help explain why performance is changing by connecting executive metrics to the operational activities and processes that influence them.
- →Serve as a trusted advisor to business and analytics teams on reporting strategy, visualization, KPI design, and best practices.
- Develop new frameworks such as integrating Sigma with Databricks Unity Catalog or dbt semantic layer to ensure robust and high quality reporting.
- Architect scalable and high quality data models in Sigma that acts as the backbone of the reporting ecosystem, allowing general end users to self serve with a low barrier to entry.
- Develop documentation, training materials, and best practices that encourage business users in adopting Sigma for self-service reporting.
Requirements
~2 min read7+ years experience developing business intelligence and reporting solutions with a strong data science or business background3+ years experience in data/analytics engineering with strong experience connecting data pipelines to end state reporting
- 1+ years experience developing conversational analytics and agentic AI solutions
- Proven relationships with business end users with clear understanding of how data is used to power business decisions with demonstrated storytelling skills connecting data with trends observed in business
- Advanced experience with Sigma, including dashboard development, platform administration, governance, and security. Similar experience in other BI tools such as Looker is acceptable.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both technical and business teams.
- Strong understanding of KPI development, dimensional data modeling, and reporting design.
- Strong proficiency with SQL and creating reusable data models.
- Strong experience with some of: AWS, Databricks, Delta Lake, Airflow, dbt, Redshift, Datahub; Databricks and dbt preferred
- Hands on experience with AI tools such as Claude, Gemini, Cursor and its role in streamlining data processing and enabling data democratization
- Data science or business background preferred
- Strong experience with analytics engineering principles with hands on experience creating data pipelines in dbt
- Experience modernizing reporting environments and consolidating reporting platforms.
- Strong track record of leadership and mentorship in elevating data culture, preferably in a remote environment
