Are you driven by rethinking how drilling systems are designed from first principles? Do you believe the future of geothermal energy depends on radically simpler, faster, and lower-cost drilling architectures?

At Telura, weʼre developing the next-generation drilling system which uses ultra-high-voltage electro-impulses to fracture hard rock, essentially “destroying with lightning”, to enable economically viable drilling beyond todayʼs geothermal hotspots and unlock affordable baseload energy anywhere.

Founded in 2025 and based in Munich, Telura is working closely with customers, industrial partners and leading European universities, is supported by SPRIND, and has raised $5 million to date from leading European investors.

While our core rock-breaking technology is fundamentally different, successful deployment depends on integrating it into a complete drilling system - from surface equipment and deployment concepts to drill string architecture, fluid circulation, and field operations.

Weʼre looking to connect with a senior drilling systems engineer to help architect the full drilling platform that will bring this technology into the field.

  • Design and specify key drilling system components from first principles: drill string architecture, bottom-hole assembly, pipe and connector specifications, coiled tubing or cabled deployment systems, and surface equipment interfaces
  • Define how our electro-impulse drilling technology interfaces with conventional drilling components, including drill pipe, coiled tubing, cable-based systems, and directional drilling tools
  • Lead the mechanical design of downhole assemblies, including structural loads, pressure containment, thermal management, and mechanical interfaces
  • Help evaluate alternative deployment architectures, including low-footprint systems and other novel approaches enabled by our technology
  • Translate functional requirements into detailed engineering: CAD models, drawings, tolerance analysis, and design documentation
  • Lead design reviews with a focus on requirements, FMEA, manufacturability, reliability, and supplier capability
  • Define and oversee testing requirements, including factory acceptance tests, load tests, qualification tests, and prototype evaluations
  • Own the technical relationship with engineering suppliers and fabricators: align them to design requirements, review outputs, and ensure designs translate into manufacturable, field-ready hardware
  • Act as a technical sparring partner to the CTO and engineering team on drilling-related design decisions and trade-offs
  • Support engagement with customers, partners, and investors by articulating how Telura's technology can transform drilling system architecture

Requirements

~1 min read
  • Significant experience in drilling engineering, drilling systems design, and drilling equipment specification and design
  • Background in drilling equipment for geothermal, oil & gas, mining, or other deep subsurface industries
  • Strong systems thinking across surface equipment, drill strings, bottom-hole assemblies, hydraulics, and operations
  • Practical understanding of rig design, mechanical interfaces, and field deployment
  • Ability to evaluate both conventional and unconventional drilling architectures
  • Comfort working with early-stage technology, uncertainty, and rapid iteration
  • A collaborative mindset and enthusiasm for helping build a fundamentally new drilling paradigm from the ground up
  • Ideal Backgrounds: SLB, Halliburton, Baker Hughes, etc.

What We Offer
