About The Dispatch
The Dispatch stands out as a platform for thoughtful coverage, respectful dialogue, and a wildly engaged community of paying members. We bring a perspective—we’re right-of-center—but we’re fiercely independent, standing apart from media outlets increasingly engaged in partisan boosterism. Started in 2019 by Steve Hayes and Jonah Goldberg, The Dispatch has filled a valuable gap in the media ecosystem as covered in the New York Times, Vanity Fair, The Atlantic, and other publications.
We also own and operate SCOTUSblog, the definitive source for Supreme Court coverage for more than 20 years, and this role will support its growth as well as The Dispatch's.
We are hiring an Growth Marketing Manager to grow the top of our membership funnel.
This is the execution layer of our growth program, and it runs the front half of the funnel: audience development at the top, acquisition through paid and organic channels, and conversion of new audiences into members. You will build and launch campaigns, run acquisition and conversion tests, own the channels that bring new people to The Dispatch, and turn the resulting data into decisions. You will work directly with senior leadership and own outcomes rather than tasks.
We are a small team, which means the surface area here is wider than this title usually carries at a larger company. You will touch strategy, creative, execution, and reporting. The right candidate has worked at a company of similar size or stage, understands the creativity required to build with limited resources, and wants the ownership and upside that comes with it.
This role is based in Washington, D.C. (hybrid). Candidates in the D.C. area preferred, though we'll consider exceptional remote candidates.
Our fundamentals are strong: high-quality editorial, a trusted brand, a loyal paying audience, and steady organic growth. What we have not yet built are sustainable systems that regularly get our work in front of new audiences.
Almost all of our growth so far has come from word of mouth and the quality of the work itself. That is a good problem to have, and there is real room to build on it. Our search, social, and referral channels are underdeveloped relative to the reporting behind them, and there is room to build a paid acquisition program from the ground up. Big news moments drive traffic spikes we could be converting far better than we do. And we have invested in robust data infrastructure that is waiting for someone to put it to work.
That is the job.
