AV Design & Engineering Project Specialist

Department:	The Division of Information Technology (DoIT) has approximately 85 full-time staff members and 100 undergraduate or graduate students who work each day to support the mission of UMBC through the delivery of IT services to the campus. DoIT provides robust, secure IT environments that enable solutions for advancing the UMBC community. Position Overview:	The AV Design & Engineering Project Specialist will serve a vital role in the upgrade and upkeep of classrooms and meetings spaces on UMBC's campus. This position will serve as the primary installation technician and site foreman for in-house audio/visual projects ensuring the proper and safe installation of equipment. The Specialist will also assist in the training, supervision, and mentorship of AV Installation Student Technicians to ensure a safe working environment on job sites. Furthermore the Specialist will assist in the project management and design of select projects including classrooms, meeting spaces, and digital signage. The work this role accomplishes will directly impact the quality and efficiency of educational experiences for both instructors and students alike as DoIT continues to improve the Audio/Visual technology on campus.

Responsibilities:

• Serve as primary installation technician and site foreman for all DoIT-lead audio/visual installations in accordance with UMBC and industry standards and best practices
• Assist in the configuration and programming of audio/visual systems
• Coordinate with campus partners including Facilities Management and other DoIT groups in the upgrade of campus spaces

• Assist in the supervision, mentorship, and training of Design & Installation student employees in the proper and safe installation of audio/visual systems
• Assist in the training of other full-time AV staff members in the installation, upkeep, and repair of AV systems

• Serve as Project Manager and Designer on select audio/visual upgrades including completing needs analysis with clients, creating AV upgrade designs, generating cost estimates, and scheduling installation.

• Perform advanced troubleshooting and repairs of classroom and meeting room AV systems
• Respond to Tier 2 and Tier 3 customer service requests of AV systems

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Educational Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in AV technology, information systems, educational technology, communications, engineering, or related field.

Experience Requirements:

• Two years of experience in AV technology installation and support in an educational environment
• Two years of experience in the use of hand and power tools in a commercial setting
• One year of experience in leading student teams
• One year of experience in advanced AV troubleshooting

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift up to 25lbs
• Ability to work on ladders
• Ability to work in confined spaces such as equipment racks and closets
• Ability to properly and safely use hand and power tools

Preferred Qualifications: 

Experience Preferred:

• Experience installing and configuring Extron, Cisco, Shure, and Epson AV equipment

Salary:

Salary: $66,000-74,000 depending on qualifications and experience.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
