Working in partnership with government institutions, civil society organizations, women's rights organizations, academia, the private sector, development partners and the United Nations system, UN Women implements a diverse portfolio of programmes and initiatives aimed at strengthening institutional capacities, promoting gender-responsive policies and services, supporting women's leadership and participation, advancing gender-responsive governance, and fostering inclusive and equitable social and economic development. These interventions are implemented through national and regional partnerships and contribute to Armenia's international commitments on gender equality, human rights, sustainable development, and peace and security.
Within these priorities, the Media and Communications Analyst contributes to ensuring that UN Women’s mandate, programmes, results and key messages are effectively communicated to national stakeholders, partners, media, donors and the wider public. The position provides strategic communications, media relations, advocacy, outreach and digital engagement support to increase the visibility and understanding of UN Women’s work, strengthen partnerships, facilitate dissemination of evidence and results, and ensure consistent, gender-responsive and audience-focused messaging. Through effective communication planning, media monitoring, content development, digital presence and knowledge sharing, the position directly supports the Office’s expected outcomes of increased public awareness, stronger stakeholder engagement, enhanced visibility of results, and greater support for gender equality and women’s empowerment in Armenia.
Reporting to the Programme Specialist at UN Women Armenia Office, the Media and Communications Analyst is responsible for leading the planning and implementation of the Office communications and advocacy strategies to increase the standing and awareness of UN Women with partners, the media and the public.
The Communications Analyst works in close collaboration with the Programme, Operations and technical teams in the UN Women Armenia Office, UN Women Georgia Country Office and UN Women ECA RO communications teams, staff of other UN Agencies, Government officials, media, multilateral and bilateral donors and civil society.
1.Plan and design communication and outreach/advocacy strategies and plans
- Prepare and conduct communication needs assessments for the UN Women Armenia Office, including projects, programmes and corporate change initiatives;
- Analyze requirements and synthesize proposals for elaboration of communication strategies; ensure gender perspective;
- Integrate communication, advocacy and outreach strategies into proposals for project/programmes and other initiatives;
- Monitor and analyze print and social media and draft reports;
- Coordinate in-country UN Women/ UN system corporate and local campaigns and special events;
- Liaise with retained communications service providers, including photographers, designers and videographers, to coordinate their engagement in the Office’s communications activities and ensure the timely delivery of high-quality communications products.
- Implement of the Advocacy and Communication Acton Plan;
- Ensure visibility outreach on UN Women advocacy issues through traditional and social media;
- Monitor and analyze environment relevant to UN Women’s work, as well as the public perception of UN Women in the media and general public across the country, identifying opportunities for strategic communications interventions, impimentation of appropriate actions;
- Develop and maintain close collaboration with media, essential to achieving UN Women's advocacy and communication objectives;
- Contribute to the work of the UN Communications Group, as well as to the Regional and Global Communications Groups;
- Contribute to office reports development;
- Draft and edit articles, press releases, human interest stories, social media content and other advocacy/information materials;
- Contribute to organizing and generating public support for special events
2. Coordinate and implement the development and dissemination of advocacy materials
- Develop and produce communication instruments and materials, including briefing materials, press releases, and drafts of articles, and manage its dissemination;
- Identify and propose information opportunities, activities, approaches and platforms and partners;
- Promote and disseminate corporate advocacy materials for launching flagship initiatives, publications, and campaigns;
- Manage the translation/adaption/rewriting of information received, printing and dissemination of publications and audio-visual materials;
- Follow guidelines from HQ and RO.
3. Coordinate media relations
- Manage relationships with press in country; maintain and update database of relevant press;
- Respond to a variety of inquiries and information requests; prepare related correspondence;
- Organize roundtable discussions, press conferences, and briefing sessions for press, as required;
- Draft talking points for media engagement and public events
- Proactively identify and pitch relevant stories, initiatives and expert voices to national media outlets, and liaise with journalists and media partners to strengthen the Office’s visibility and media engagement.
4. Build and maintain partnerships and maintain relations with donors
- Identify and develop new communication partnerships and alliances to enhance visibility;
- Liaise with advocacy partners and undertake outreach to civil society organizations, governments, and other groups to ensure that newsworthy information reaches the public and donors;
- Provide inputs to packages for programme initiatives for donor review.
5. Maintain the UN Women Armenia Office’s web/ online presence
- Manage UN Women Armenia Office’s websites’ content and maintenance based on corporate requirements;
- Manage the social media accounts in line with corporate social media policy;
- Upload information to knowledge management system on a regular basis, including news, updates, and resources;
- Maintain and regularly update the Office’s photo bank, ensuring a diverse and high-quality collection of images covering human-interest stories, programme activities, events, partners and the women and communities UN Women works with
6. Facilitate knowledge building and sharing
- Identify and synthesize best practices and lessons learned directly linked to programme country goals and activities;
- Provide training and workshops on communication and advocacy, as appropriate.

Requirements
~1 min read- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in communications, public relations, journalism or relevant field is required.
- A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- 0- 2 years of professional work experience in public relations, communications or advocacy is required.
- Experience in the use of social media is required.
- Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.), spreadsheet and database packages, experience in handling of web-based management systems is required.
- Experience in the use of a modern web-based ERP System, preferably Oracle Cloud, is desirable.
- Fluency in English is required.
- Fluency in Armenian is required.
- Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable (French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Spanish).
