Law Library Student Research Assistant

The Library Research Assistant (LRA) will work with library employees on developing instructional materials related to artificial intelligence resources for legal research platforms, including Westlaw, LexisNexis, Harvey and Bloomberg Law. LRA will review materials developed by library staff and provide a student perspective on bespoke research instruction exercises. The LRA will also attend vendor trainings with me in order to learn new features being rolled out by the vendors. LRA will also complete discrete research assignments as delegated in writing.  LRA will attend weekly status updates (over Zoom or in person) in order to manage ongoing projects and ensure milestones are met on complex, ongoing projects. LRA will develop a presentation related to agentic AI for the Topics in Advanced Legal Research and/or Legal Innovation course being taught in Spring 2027. 80% Research Projects.

1. Completion of Advanced Legal Research course from KU Law. 

1. Experience with artificial intelligence and federated search systems. 

During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.

(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
