Student Recording Studio Monitors- POOL

The Murphy 570 Student Recording Studio Monitor position supports the instructional, creative, and operational activities of the recording studio within the University of Kansas School of Music. The School of Music is a nationally recognized institution offering a broad range of undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs in performance, composition, music education, and music therapy. This position provides students with hands-on experience in a professional audio production environment while supporting the School of Music's educational and artistic mission. 100% - Recording Studio/Live Sound Support Responsibilities 

• Assist with the operation and daily use of the Murphy 570 Recording Studio.
• Set up and tear down recording and mixing sessions to ensure studios are prepared for instruction and student use.
• Provide support to Music Production and Technology students and recording certificate students using studio facilities.
• Monitor studio activities and ensure compliance with studio policies, procedures, and equipment usage guidelines.
• Assist with maintaining a safe, organized, and functional recording studio environment.
• Provide live sound support for Jazz and Commercial Music performances and events, as needed.
• Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and inventory management of recording and audio equipment.
• Report equipment issues and coordinate repairs or replacements as appropriate.
• Support faculty, staff, and students in the effective use of recording studio technology and resources.

1. Experience supporting music-related programs, activities, or offerings at KU, as indicated in application materials. 
2. Basic experience with recording and/or live sound equipment, as indicated in application materials. 

1. Eligibility for the Federal Work-Study Program preferred, but not required.
2. Current music major, minor or recording certificate student.

During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.

(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.

10-15 hours per week. Special events may require additional hours up to 20 hours total per week.

Days of work can include Sunday through Saturday, between the hours of 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
