Battery Pack Architect M/F
Quick Summary
As a Battery Pack Architect, you are responsible for defining the overall system architecture and ensuring the technical coherence and performance of the battery pack.
As a Battery Pack Architect, you are responsible for defining the overall system architecture and ensuring the technical coherence and performance of the battery pack. You drive key design decisions by balancing electrochemical, electrical, thermal, mechanical, and safety constraints to deliver a solution that is safe, high-performing, manufacturable, and cost-effective.
You act as a cross-functional technical leader and the main guarantor of the system-level vision.
- Define the overall battery pack architecture, including:
- Electrical topology (series/parallel configuration, HV/LV interfaces)
- Mechanical concept (modules integration, pack integration, pack enclosure design)
- Busbar routing
- Thermal architecture
- Ensure consistency between cells, BMS, power electronics, and system-level requirements
- Drive architectural trade-offs considering performance, cost, risk, manufacturability (ergonomic, value chain, process flow chart) and industrial constraints (existing means compatibility)
Requirements
~1 min read- Define and cascade system requirements
- In charge of design justification document as well as its integration into PLM
- Ensure requirements traceability across the system
- Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for the battery pack
- Ensure proper integration of all subsystems:
- Cells
- BMS
- Thermal system
- High-voltage components (contactors, fuses, etc.)
- Manage critical interfaces (electrical, thermal, mechanical, communication)
- Guarantee system behavior under all operating conditions (normal and fault cases)
- Integrate safety constraints from early design stages:
- Define mitigation strategies (detection, isolation, protection mechanisms)
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations
- Identify and manage technical risks across the system
- Drive key trade-offs (cost vs performance vs safety)
- Lead architecture and design reviews
- Support high-level product and technical decisions
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in battery system architecture, with at least 5 years owning system architecture on complete pack programs.
- An experience with EV OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, or pack integrators is preferred.
- Proven greenfield program experience (building a product from scratch).
- Fluent English mandatory.
- Willingness to travel to customers and suppliers internationally.
- Knowledge of applicable standards: IEC 62619, UN 38.3, GB38031, ECE R100, ISO 26262 fundamentals.
- Required management tools: DOORS, Polarion, or Jama. JIRA or an equivalent for project tracking.
- Proven knowledge in high-voltage battery pack design and development and battery pack mechanical design
- Good understanding in battery pack main characteristics sizing, thermal management, and system-level validation (components to full battery pack)
- Familiarity with the simulation approach and DFMEA
- Functional safety fundamentals (HARA, ASIL allocation)
- Knowledge of CATIA V5/SolidWorks (system & electrical layout), and MATLAB/Simulink (pack performance simulation
