POSITION SUMMARY
- This position is responsible for building, leading, and managing the Structural Engineering team at the Global Engineering Centre (GEC) in Pune, India. The Team Lead will be a hands-on technical leader who combines deep structural engineering expertise with people management capabilities.
- The Team Lead will lead a team of structural engineers responsible for developing structural design of modular steel structures of moderate to high complexity, including complex structural calculations (static and dynamic), steel structure workshop documentation, lifting and transport drawings, anchoring layouts, and technical specifications for global projects.
- This role requires establishing the team from the ground up, defining processes and standards, mentoring engineers, and ensuring the GEC Pune structural team delivers safe, reliable, functional, and economical construction designs in alignment with international standards and project requirements.
- The Team Lead will proactively cooperate across multiple disciplines including mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and fire protection, while driving team capability building, quality, and continuous improvement.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Team Building & People Management:
- Build and scale structural team, define hiring plans and competency requirements
- Onboarding, training roadmaps, mentoring, performance reviews
- Capacity planning, workload allocation, resource utilization
- Foster high-performance culture
- Technical Leadership & Engineering Delivery:
- Lead conceptual and detailed structural design for modular steel structures
- Ensure delivery of: static calculations, dynamic calculations, structural 3D models, detail drawings, workshop documentation, lifting/transport drawings, anchoring layouts, material submittals, specifications
- Drive adoption of Tekla, Revit, AutoCAD, Robot, SCIA Engineer, IDEA StatiCa, anchoring/fire design software
- Handle most complex calculations personally, set technical benchmarks
- Participate in R&D projects as needed
- Ensure compliance with international standards (Eurocode, AISC, IS 800, IS 875)
- Design Review & Quality:
- Review/approve outsourced structural design documentation
- Approve/reject supplier offers technically
- Approve/reject subcontractor changes to workshop documentation
- Specify BOM, services, and material certificates
- Project & Stakeholder Management:
- Coordinate with global Project Lead Engineers and customers
- Participate in kick-off meetings, project team meetings, on-site coordination meetings
- Report project status, initiate RFIs
- Support suppliers during bidding phase
- Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Cooperate with mechanical, electrical, fire protection disciplines
- Collaborate with Manufacturing, Site Deployment, Quality Control, Commissioning
- Participate in internal testing and FAT
- Provide technical support during production/assembly
AUTHORITIES
- Hiring recommendations and performance management for structural team
- Review and approval of outsourced structural design documentation
- Approve/reject supplier offers and subcontractor changes
- Resource allocation and workload assignment
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: B.E./B.Tech in Civil/Structural Engineering; M.Tech preferred
- Experience: 10+ years in structural design, 2+ years team leadership
- Language: English fluent; Hindi/Marathi preferred
- Software: Tekla, Revit, AutoCAD, Robot, SCIA Engineer, IDEA StatiCa, anchoring/fire design software, MS Office
- Standards: Eurocode, AISC, IS 800, IS 875, IS 1893, EN 1993, EN 1090
- Soft skills: Leadership, independence, attention to detail, problem solving, organization, creativity, teamwork, flexibility
TIME TRAVEL REQUIRED
- 30-40% (International travel to global offices, customer sites, manufacturing facilities, and supplier locations)
