Responsibilities

  • →Own assigned areas of the general ledger and ensure transactions are recorded accurately, completely, and in the appropriate accounting period.
  • →Prepare and post recurring and non-recurring journal entries, including accruals, reclassifications, and other month-end adjustments.
  • →Perform detailed balance sheet and general ledger account reconciliations; research and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • →Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities and help ensure established close deadlines are met.
  • →Analyze account activity, trends, and variances and provide clear explanations and supporting documentation to Accounting leadership.
  • →Prepare accounting schedules, reports, and supporting documentation for financial reporting and management review.
  • →Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, cash, and other accounting functions as needed, with emphasis on accurate general ledger treatment.
  • →Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation within the company's ERP/accounting system and related business systems.
  • →Assist with external audit, tax, insurance, and other financial information requests by preparing schedules and supporting documentation.
  • →Partner with employees and departments across VLCM to research transactions, resolve accounting questions, and improve the accuracy of financial information.
  • →Identify and implement improvements to accounting processes, internal controls, reconciliations, reporting, and workflow efficiency.
  • →Perform other accounting responsibilities and special projects as assigned.
  • 5+ years of professional accounting experience preferred, including general ledger accounting, reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close responsibilities.
  • Strong understanding of fundamental accounting concepts.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant accounting experience will be considered.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently own assigned accounts and accounting processes from transaction review through reconciliation and close.
  • Experience working in ERP/accounting systems and comfort learning and using cloud-based business applications.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, lookups, PivotTables, data analysis, and reconciliation of larger data sets.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, organization, and follow-through.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet recurring accounting deadlines, and appropriately handle confidential financial information.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with Accounting team members and employees across the organization.
