Founded in 2017, Wayve is the leading developer of Embodied AI technology.  Our advanced AI software and foundation models enable vehicles to perceive, understand, and navigate any complex environment, enhancing the usability and safety of automated driving systems.

Our vision is to create autonomy that propels the world forward.  Our intelligent, mapless, and hardware-agnostic AI products are designed for automakers, accelerating the transition from assisted to automated driving.

In our fast-paced environment big problems ignite us—we embrace uncertainty, leaning into complex challenges to unlock groundbreaking solutions. We aim high and stay humble in our pursuit of excellence, constantly learning and evolving as we pave the way for a smarter, safer future.

At Wayve, your contributions matter.  We value diversity, embrace new perspectives, and foster an inclusive work environment; we back each other to deliver impact.

Make Wayve the experience that defines your career!

Wayve is developing driver-out Robotaxi systems that bring together the AI Driver, vehicle platform, sensors and compute, safety mechanisms, Remote Assistance, fleet services, and cloud operations.

We are looking for a Systems Engineer, Robotaxi to turn defined parts of this system-level vision into clear, implementable architecture. You will work closely alongside Wayve's lead Robotaxi System Architect, translating their reference architecture into functions, requirements, interfaces, decisions, and verification-ready outputs for the areas you own..

Your scope covers how the Robotaxi system works as a safe, scalable driver-out service — the vehicle, ADS, onboard compute, offboard capabilities, and the boundaries between Wayve, OEMs, Tier1s, and Robotaxi partners — and includes working directly with those partners to define architecture and product boundaries together, including leading technical discussions with them.

Responsibilities

~1 min read
  • Own the systems engineering for defined parts of the Robotaxi architecture — for example vehicle/ADS interfaces, Remote Assistance/offboard boundaries, or fleet/cloud integration
  • Translate use cases, operational concepts, and constraints into system requirements, interfaces, assumptions, and verification-ready specifications for the areas you own.
  • Work directly with OEM, Tier1, and Robotaxi operator partners to define system and product boundaries together, including leading technical working sessions and design discussions with them.
  • Apply the Robotaxi reference architecture to real vehicle programs across sensors, compute, ECU topology, vehicle interfaces, and degraded-operation behavior.
  • Support implementation through technical reviews, bring-up planning, issue triage, and design-change impact analysis.
  • Escalate cross-domain or cross-program trade-offs that go beyond your defined scope to the lead Robotaxi System Architect and relevant domain owners.

You are a hands-on Robotaxi systems engineer who has worked on a real Robotaxi or production-intent L4 driver-out system. You can reason across hardware, embedded software, autonomy, safety, vehicle integration, offboard services, and operations, while producing engineering artifacts that teams can implement and verify.

You are comfortable owning a defined technical scope within a larger reference architecture, working in close partnership with a lead architect, and collaborating across domain boundaries. You can engage external partners directly — defining system and product boundaries together and running technical discussions — while staying clear on internal ownership.

  • Direct, hands-on experience designing, integrating, or deploying a Robotaxi or production-intent L4 driver-out autonomous system.
  • Systems engineering experience spanning several parts of the system, such as vehicle platform, sensors, compute, embedded software, ADS, safety mechanisms, Remote Assistance/offboard services, fleet/cloud systems, or operations.
  • Experience converting use cases and operational concepts into functional decomposition, system requirements, interfaces, assumptions, trade studies, and verification intent.
  • Experience defining system and product boundaries across multiple companies or organizations, such as an autonomy developer, OEM, Tier1, operator, or technology partner.
  • Practical vehicle or robotic-system integration experience, including architecture reviews, bring-up, issue triage, debugging, or design-change impact analysis.
  • Working knowledge of driver-out safety concepts, including redundancy, degraded operation, Minimum Risk Manoeuvre, fail-operational behavior, functional safety, SOTIF, and safety-case evidence.
  • Ability to communicate complex system designs cuments, diagrams, requirements, and technical reviews.
  • Robotaxi launch readiness, fleet operations, Remote Assistance, teleoperation interfaces, depot operations, rider/passenger systems, or operational monitoring.
  • Production automotive E/E architecture, CAN, Automotive Ethernet, SOME/IP, AUTOSAR, DDS, QNX, Linux, diagnostics, time synchronization, or data logging.
  • Sensor and compute architecture involving cameras, radar, LiDAR, IMU/GNSS, calibration, timestamping, primary/secondary compute, or redundancy.
  • Requirements and architecture tooling such as Jama, MBSE/SysML, interface-control documents, decision records, and traceability systems.
  • Experience applying one reference architecture across more than one vehicle platform, OEM, or deployment model.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML-based driving systems and the implications of model capability, generalization, compute headroom, and evidence for product architecture.
