Location: Portsmouth, NH. WSL is located steps from Portsmouth’s Market Square and Prescott Park, behind the Strawbery Banke Museum.

Job Summary: Wenworth Senior Living (WSL) is looking for an experienced Controller to lead our financial operations and serve as a trusted partner to the President/CEO and leadership team.

This is a hands-on leadership role overseeing accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, billing, collections, payroll, purchasing, and internal controls. The Controller will help ensure the organization remains financially strong, compliant, and positioned to support the people and community we serve.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the Finance Department and oversee daily financial operations.
• Prepare monthly and annual financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and Board reports.
• Lead the annual budgeting process with department leaders.
• Oversee billing, accounts receivable, collections, cash flow, payroll, purchasing, and fixed assets.
• Manage the annual audit and serve as the primary contact with external auditors.
• Oversee insurance, contracts, financial controls, and risk-management activities.
• Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support organizational decisions.
• Partner with leadership, HR, Admissions, and Clinical teams on financial matters.
• Supervise, coach, and develop Finance Department staff.
• Serve as the organization’s HIPAA Security Officer.

Requirements:

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
• 5+ years of progressive financial management experience.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including formulas and pivot tables.
• Experience with financial/accounting software.
• Strong leadership, communication, organization, and analytical skills.
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• A collaborative, solutions-focused approach and strong attention to detail.

Licensure, Registration, and Certification

• CPA preferred but not required.

We compensate our staff with competitive salaries and many other benefits*.

Hours: This is a full-time, exempt, on-site position working Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–5:00 PM. Occasional flexibility outside of regular hours may be needed for special events, projects, or organizational needs.

Rate: $115,000–$125,000 annually, with placement within the range based on experience, qualifications, and relevant expertise.
