Engineering Tech II/ Surveyor

Position Summary Under the supervision of the Engineering Planning Supervisor, the position is responsible for collecting, interpreting, and maintaining accurate field survey data to support mine operations, engineering, permitting, land development, and reclamation activities. This position utilizes advanced surveying technologies, including GPS equipment, 3D laser scanning, drones, and computer-aided design (CAD) systems to collect, analyze, and manage spatial data. The Surveyor will prepare maps, drawings, reports, and other technical documentation used to plan and execute mining, construction, and reclamation projects.   Duties and Responsibilities Conduct accurate field surveys to support daily mine operations, engineering, permitting, and reclamation activities. Perform grade control, topographic, construction, and other detailed surveys as required. Collect, process, and analyze, data using GPS instruments, 3D scanners, drones, and related surveying technology. Utilize drone technology for aerial photogrammetry and the collection of aerial photographs and video. Develop and maintain GPS stakeout and layout files from CAD designs for field use. Prepare and maintain accurate maps, drawings, volume calculations, survey reports, and other technical documentation. Provide survey information and technical support for land development projects, including road construction, site preparation, and other construction activities. Ensure survey activities meet established accuracy standards, project specifications, schedules, and cost objectives. Maintain organized and accurate survey records, field notes, data files, and documentation. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications and Skills Experience with GPS surveying instruments is preferred. Experience with CAD systems and volume calculation software is preferred. Proficiency with modern surveying technologies and data collection methods. Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD designs, maps, and survey data. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with engineering and operations teams. Ability to work safely and effectively in an active mining environment and under varying field conditions. Additional Requirements Must possess a valid driver’s license through the duration of employment. Must meet all insurability requirements as specified by Westmoreland’s policies or Driver’s insurance provider. Must successfully complete all required pre-employment screenings. Must be willing and able to perform field work in an active mining environment. Possession of a valid FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate, or the ability to acquire one within 90 days of hire.
