Network Engineer

What’s the role?

Join our Enterprise Network Operations team in a hands-on role supporting highly available network services across Westpac’s branch, corporate and international environments. You’ll work across business-as-usual operations, incident recovery, network change delivery and project implementation, with a focus on Cisco SD-WAN, SDA Campus, wireless, ISE, routing and switching. You’ll take ownership of network issues and changes, collaborate with internal technology teams, service providers and vendors, and contribute to the stability and continuous improvement of our network services. This is a hybrid role that includes participation in an on-call roster, planned after-hours changes and office attendance where required.

 

What do I need?

• Strong hands-on experience supporting enterprise network environments across operational support and project delivery.
• Experience supporting and troubleshooting Cisco SD-WAN (Viptela), including implementing network changes.
• Knowledge of Cisco SDA Campus environments and Cisco Catalyst Centre, formerly known as Cisco DNA Center or DNAC.
• Hands-on experience supporting Cisco wireless technologies and Cisco ISE, including connectivity, authentication and policy-related troubleshooting.
• Strong routing and switching knowledge, including BGP, OSPF, Layer 2 and Layer 3 concepts, network resiliency and design principles.
• Working knowledge of DNS, DHCP, VLANs, interfaces, redundancy and fundamental firewall concepts.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex network incidents, coordinate service restoration and engage effectively with carriers, vendors and service providers.
• Experience delivering controlled network changes, including technical planning, testing, implementation, validation, rollback planning and transition to operations.
• Understanding of ITIL-aligned incident, change and problem management processes, with a strong focus on operational risk and service stability.
• Strong communication, collaboration and documentation skills, with the ability to work independently, provide clear status updates and share knowledge across the team.
• Exposure to network automation using Python or Ansible and delivery tooling such as Jenkins or Bitbucket would be beneficial.
