About the Role
~1 min readThe Peer Support Manager leads and strengthens Plymouth Housing’s peer support program across the organization’s housing portfolio. This role supervises Certified Peer Support Specialists and the Lead Peer Support Specialist, ensuring peer services are resident-centered and aligned with Plymouth Housing’s mission, Housing First philosophy, harm-reduction practices, trauma-informed care, and recovery-oriented principles.
The Peer Support Manager provides administrative and peer-support-specific supervision; supports staff development, role clarity, and ethical practice; and helps build a sustainable, organization-wide peer program. Working closely with property-based teams, Integrated Care, Resident Well-Being, and other internal and community partners, this role expands opportunities for resident connection, wellness, recovery, self-advocacy, and belonging.
Responsibilities
~2 min read- →Supervise, coach, mentor, and support Certified Peer Support Specialists and the Lead Peer Support Specialist across Plymouth Housing properties.
- →Provide regular administrative and peer-support-specific supervision, including reflective practice, performance feedback, documentation review, staff development, role-boundary guidance, and support with ethical questions.
- →Support staff onboarding, orientation, professional-development planning, training, retention, wellness, and team cohesion.
- →Ensure peer staff understand and practice appropriate confidentiality, consent, documentation, professional boundaries, ethical use of lived experience, and escalation procedures.
- →Promote peer-support services grounded in shared experience, mutuality, empowerment, respect, hope, self-determination, recovery, and resident choice.
- →Support peer staff in providing voluntary, relationship-based, strengths-based services that honor each resident’s culture, voice, safety, dignity, goals, and individual pathway of recovery.
- →Partner with building teams, Integrated Care, Resident Well-Being, and other departments to identify resident needs, service gaps, and opportunities for responsive peer-support programming.
- →Lead the development and implementation of resident groups, recovery activities, wellness opportunities, community-building events, and connections to internal and community resources.
- →Develop scalable peer-program tools, including supervision practices, onboarding materials, training resources, role expectations, program curricula, documentation standards, policies, workflows, and standard operating procedures.
- →Support staff in applying strengths-based practice, natural-support mapping, OARS communication skills, recovery and resilience principles, SMART Goals, self-advocacy, and appropriate story sharing.
- →Lead and support program planning, evaluation, quality-improvement efforts, and practical changes that strengthen peer services and resident well-being.
- →Collect, maintain, and review program data, staff feedback, resident feedback, service trends, and other information to identify training needs, service gaps, and improvement opportunities.
- →Maintain accurate, timely, secure records related to supervision, staff development, resident programming, training, outreach, data collection, and quality-improvement activities.
- →Collaborate with organizational leaders, data and evaluation partners, clinical staff, research partners, and community organizations to support program growth, learning, and effective coordination.
- →Educate staff and partners about peer support, recovery-oriented services, harm reduction, stigma reduction, and Plymouth Housing’s mission and community impact.
- Builds trust and works respectfully with people from many backgrounds and lived experiences, contributing to safe, welcoming housing communities where residents experience dignity, choice, and belonging.
- Uses self-awareness and humility to communicate effectively across differences, adapt approach, and treat people with fairness and respect.
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to Housing First, harm reduction, trauma-informed care, recovery-oriented practice, cultural responsiveness, and resident-centered services.
- Understands and applies core peer-support principles, including shared experience, mutuality, empowerment, respect, hope, self-determination, and recovery.
- Demonstrates knowledge of peer-support ethics, confidentiality, consent, professional boundaries, reflective supervision, and intentional use of lived experience.
- Provides supportive, accountable supervision and coaching that promotes staff wellness, professional growth, role clarity, skill development, and quality service delivery.
- Understands the distinction between peer support, clinical services, case management, and other supportive-housing roles.
- Demonstrates strong facilitation, communication, coaching, relationship-building, conflict-resolution, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Develops and delivers effective training, practical tools, curricula, workflows, policies, and standard operating procedures.
- Uses resident and staff feedback, data, and best practices to guide program development and continuous improvement.
- Maintains accurate documentation, protects confidential information, manages multiple priorities, and meets deadlines.
- Demonstrates proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to use databases, virtual-meeting platforms, online research tools, and other technology to support program operations.
Requirements
~2 min read- High school diploma or equivalent and at least three years of experience in the program specialty, or an equivalent combination of education, professional experience, and lived experience.
- Active Washington State Certified Peer Support Specialist certification required, unless the candidate holds an LICSW, LMHC, LMFT, SUDP, or another qualifying credential recognized by Plymouth Housing.
- Four or more years of experience in social services, supportive housing, community advocacy, behavioral health, mental health services, substance-use-disorder services, or a related field. Relevant education and lived experience may substitute for some professional experience.
- Two or more years of supervisory, lead, mentorship, coaching, or staff-development experience; experience with peer-support staff preferred.
- At least two years of experience in clinical, behavioral-health, mental-health, or substance-use-disorder services; supervised practicum experience may be considered.
- Demonstrated experience supporting people with complex needs through person-centered, trauma-informed, strengths-based, recovery-oriented, and harm-reduction approaches.
- Experience developing, implementing, evaluating, or improving programs, training curricula, policies, workflows, tools, or quality-improvement processes.
- Experience supporting or supervising staff who use lived experience professionally preferred.
- Washington State Department of Health Approved Supervisor status preferred. Candidates supervising Peer Support Specialist Trainees must meet Approved Supervisor requirements or work under a documented joint-supervision arrangement until eligible.
- Familiarity with WRAP, WHAM, person-centered planning, recovery-oriented systems of care, contingency management, and community-based behavioral-health resources preferred.
