O&M Backflow Tester / F.O.G. Inspector

The City of Bushnell is one of the fastest-growing cities in Florida and is known as “The City Dedicated to the Quality of Life.” As a Backflow Tester & F.O.G. Inspector, you will play a vital role in protecting the community’s water and wastewater systems while ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. 

Reporting to the Project Manager or Chief Operator, you will oversee cross-connection control requirements, backflow testing, and Fats, Oils, and Grease (F.O.G.) program activities. You’ll conduct inspections, testing, monitoring, sampling, reporting, and compliance activities while also supporting operations and maintenance efforts across the water treatment plant, wastewater treatment plant, sewer lift stations, splash pad, and meter reading programs. 

In this role, you’ll help ensure: 

• Backflow testing and F.O.G. control programs are effectively implemented and monitored. 

• Environmental regulations and permit requirements are consistently met. 

• Compliance issues are identified, documented, and resolved through inspections, education, outreach, and enforcement activities. 

• Customers gain a better understanding of program requirements, resulting in fewer violations and improved program effectiveness. 

Schedule 

• Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM 

• Flexibility and extended shifts may be required to meet seasonal operational demands. 

• Reliable and dependable attendance is an essential function of the position. 

On-Call Responsibilities 

• Must be available to serve in an on-call rotation, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. 

• Required to carry the on-call phone while scheduled. 

• Must be able to respond to emergency events and alarm callouts within one hour. 

• Receive a $200 weekly on-call bonus while assigned to on-call duties. 

• Receive a minimum of 2 hours pay at 1.5x overtime rate for each callout involving water plants, wastewater plants, lift stations, E-1 stations, water breaks, splash pad operations, or related emergencies. 

• Perform routine and compliance testing of backflow prevention assemblies, including RPZ, PVB, and DC devices. 

• Clean, maintain, calibrate, and inspect field testing equipment. 

• Maintain inventory control for spare parts and devices. 

• Diagnose failures and repair, rebuild, or replace backflow preventers as necessary. 

• Document testing results, maintenance actions, and compliance status for regulatory agencies and customers. 

• Enter data into CMMS (online work order system). 

• Communicate findings and recommendations to municipalities, businesses, homeowners, management, and clients. 

• Perform additional duties as assigned.
